No One from Ajijic area?

Currently internet speeds vary dramatically depending upon the are and even the house. I hate to even generalize but as an example we get around 8-12 mbps download and maybe 0.5-0.75 upload. Uploading can be a bear.
Fortunately, there is a telecommunications company that is bringing in fiber optic. They finally raised enough money from the area to front their costs of bringing in the cable from Jocotopec. The first people who signed up are expected to get their hookup around the end of the year.

Hi speed Internet is available throughout Mexico.

Speed & reliability depend on some of the following factors:

1. Provider - Telmex, Megacable, AT&T, others
2. Plan - upload / download speeds.
3. Location - speeds vary depending on the neighborhood & # of users.
4. House layout
5. Type of modem / router equipment.
6. Peak use times in the neighborhood.

Many of my customers who are working in Mexico pay for 2 ISP´s as a safety net in case one goes out.

We've had high speed fiber optic cable provided by Ilox for about 3 months now in Ajijic and it is spreading throughout the area.  TelMex, not to be left behind, has also upgraded and offesr fiber optic as well. As long as you pick an independent home that is serviced by telephone poles you're good to go. As of right now there is only 1 gated community that has opted for fiber optic that I know of.

Hi, is the internet reliable in Ajijic/chapala area?

Hi, now in Mexico the internet is better and better. The best are the service provider that has fiber opticien cable going inside the apartment like Megacable (in Nayarit and part of Jalisco) , Totalplay (in Jalisco). Telcel has fiber optic but in my area (Nayarit) lots of customers are often not happy.  Personally, I have Megacable since 2021 and very happy monthly cost for triple pack (TV, LANDLINE, NETFLIX AND INTERNET 250 megabytes) but payment yearly in advance (13 months service  for 12 months cost) comes around $800 pesos/month.

Finally, I personally don't use data on my cellphone, so I have TELCEL service AMIGO POR SEGUNDO since 2013 and never want to change (average cost $150 pesos/month. If you go with that option be sure to put the data OFF option. But still can use the MEGACABLE signal within my apartment and nearby outside.

Internet is great most of the time in Centro Ajijic. Now, today it has been interrupted service but my guess is it's the hurricane on the coast that's in the mix. I have totalplay and rarely have issues. Today I am using my phone as a hotspot but it's been at least a year since I've had to do that and only twice in two years. I work online as well. Some areas have more spotty service but generally, centro Ajijic is very good - no different from Canada that I can tell.
