Well, the embassy was helpful in that they told what forms you need to start with, though you probably could have found out online.聽 You might be disappointed, but they cannot circumvent the law, which only allows Americans living in Romania to file at the embassy.聽 In any case, there was never a chance that you were going to walk into the embassy and immediately walk out with a immigration visa and and jump on a flight with your new bride.聽 It just does not work that way anymore in the world.

From what I've heard from a close personal friend whose brought his Romanian spouse over, it takes 3-6 months to process, as long as the paperwork, interviews and so forth go as hoped.聽 That's not a long time, compared to other countries.聽 U.S military members spend longer periods than that apart from their families, so I think you'll manage to wait out the relatively short period.
