I would not count on any stores accepting dollars and certainly not in smaller denominations. For the most part, your only option is to bring 100 dollar bills and change them at the d贸lar blue rate in cuevas (caves). Try to get stuck at the end with as few pesos as possible because it's nearly impossible to change them back into dollars in smaller denominations. Also, only bring the 100 dollar bills with the blue stripe. Many caves will not accept anything else and if they do, the will give you less money for them. I know... ridiculous, but that's the way it is.
