Is it possible to get it officially translated in Iceland into English, and then it would be easy to translate that into Brazilian Portuguese here? Then present all documents together. Just a thought...

Certified judicial translators here have their own association. Try contacting them.

09/19/24聽 聽 I need to find a reliable, honest, certified translator from Icelandic to Brazilian Portuguese. This is just for an Apostilled Birth Certificate, but I've spent a year just getting that, (long story of failed modern technology).
Does anyone know of such a person or is there a government list/directory of various language translators certified in Brazil?

I saw a directory once, but it didn't seem very complete to me so I didn't keep the reference; I'll see whether I can dig it up again.聽 Meanwhile, you might consider contacting fidelity.com.br for information:聽 if anyone in Brazil has access to that service, they'd be a good candidate.

I suspect that you'll end up needing the two-step process that @Peter Itamaraca suggests.聽 Unless by chance the document is bilingual,聽 Icelandic/Danish.聽 A Danish translator may be less rare here.

Each certified judicial translator has to be a member of their state association or their work may not be legally recognized. I just had my Canadian D/L translated last week for Detran.

Search online as follows......Associacao de Profissional de Tradutores Publicos e Interpretes Comerciais Juramentados do Estado do [insert your state here]

In Rio their website is so I'd also try searching this way as well, and substituting your state for Rio.

FWIW 2 pages cost me R$150......

I ran this by my Brazilian wife, her impression was it will likely be a 鈥渢wo step translation鈥�. Icelandic to English, then into Portuguese. She鈥檚 a Translator by Trade in the USA but knows a lot of translators here in Brazil as well. We鈥檒l keep beating the bushes though.

It's probably the only way to go.聽 There's no Icelandic Embassy in Bras铆lia, but there's apparently an Honorary Consul in S茫o Paulo.聽 Maybe he could tell you how presenting Icelandic documents is normally handled:
