Getting around with your pet in Brazil

Hello everyone,

Living in Brazil with a pet also means learning how to navigate local transport systems together. From daily commutes to occasional trips, you have to navigate betwwen local rules and real-life experiences. Whether you’re a long-term expat or still adjusting, we would love to hear your insights.

How do you usually travel with your pet in Brazil?

How pet-friendly do you find local transportation means in practice?

What challenges do you face?

How does your pet handle transportation in Brazil in general?

What about costs when traveling with public transportation (either bus, train, taxi, plane…)? Are there special or additional rates for pets?

Have you ever encountered unexpected situations or surprises related to pet transport rules?

Share your experience to help fellow expats and soon-to-be expats.

Thanks,

Cheryl

Sorry Cheryl. We are not, nor ever have been typical.

We live in a small village in Northeastern Brazil with a very very large sprawling compound of 3 houses. One I share with SIMBA Across the street is a community park that my wife built. SIMBA and I visit the park each morning and sit across from it in front of our property in the evening. Dogs in our village do not wear leashes and share the area with Bulls, Cows, Chickens, Horses and Pigs.

SIMBA, a beagle mix that we adopted from Honduran Diplomats over 5 years ago in Maryland and I flew from Logan Airport in Massachusetts to Jericoara Airport in Ceara. He is very, very happy.
