I have been doing a lot of reading on Ecuador as a whole like many of you.聽 I find some things just downright disturbing in the way some of the different people described things in their blogs.聽 Some seem pretty straight shooting and others are really wishy washy or flip flopping as to how they like things in Ecuador.聽 I finally gave up on a couple of them.

I have been to several countries considered third world and I really like what I've heard and read about Ecuador and really believe my family will like it there.聽 My son-in-law and I are going to meet another son of mine down there this spring and we have been tossing between flying into Quito or Guayaquil.聽 We are wanting to check out a few places including Cuenca, Cotacachi, Manta or Salinas on the coast.聽 We are looking to invest in a couple of businesses, one in agriculture and the other internet based.聽 We will ultimately hire and train 95% locals.聽 So, we are currently weighing out the different investment strategies for residency status and I'm going to write a law firm in Cuenca shortly.聽 I want to have the least amount of red tape to deal with as possible since there will be two small families and my eldest son relocating to Ecuador.聽 My wife in a naturalized citizen originally from the Philippines and I don't know how much that will affect our residency?聽 Hopefully not any more difficult than if she was born in the US.

Looking for any pointers that might fit my ideas.

Ecuador has many things I would consider bad in comparison to living in north america but they are eclipsed by the good as far as I am concerned.聽 The freedoms here are amazing.

I have heard in north Quito there is quite a few Filipina's, my wife tells me this, I think they are all in one specific area.聽 By quite a few I am not speaking thousands but more likely hundreds.

My wife isn't really concerned about moving where there are other filipina's. She has not been around very many in all the years she has lived in the states.聽 She actually came to the states as a child.聽 We spent a good portion of 2011 in the Philippines with thoughts of moving there but just way too crowded for our likes.聽 We currently live out in the country but have lived several years in the city.聽 We have lived in luxury and have roughed it over the years.

Luna2, I have spent some time over at that blog and have even left a couple of comments.聽 I love the stories.

Alberta, In a lot of places I have traveled around the globe I actually felt more freedom than I have in a long time here in the states.聽 The US appears to be going down a path of destruction from within.聽 History is repeating itself.

We are looking for the new west so to speak and believe a place like Ecuador can be that fit.

It's been almost a week and I have never heard back from the attorney in Cuenca.聽 Must be that busy.聽 Maybe I'll find one in Quito with available time.

mugtech, are you in Ecuador? I was hoping for at least an email response to my request since it involved at least three families.聽 They are probably swamped.聽 Yeah, I probably better become a little more patient like my wife. lol.聽 I can be though.聽 I've been through the wringer on a few things.聽 I just want to have as much done before I leave in April from the US.
