Your experience of culture shock in Ecuador

MGLuke wrote:

Being of Hispanic culture it is usually the person that enters a shop or a bus or the likes that is supposed/expected to greet the people that were all ready there.聽 This is taught as just manners at a very early age.聽 I think It is not so much being offended as it is thinking that we are rude for not addressing the group with a hello.聽 It really is a cultural thing in Spain as well as all over Latin America.聽 But I find that it works every ware.

Good insight, Martha. :top:聽 聽This is the type of inside baseball that most Gringos are not aware of, and lack of knowing it may make them think Ecuadorians are stand-offish.

Its amazing ccmedia.聽 I have gone all over the place on bus, to little towns and in the city's or small towns they really are friendly people.聽 I am pretty darn well sold on the place.聽 Its so nice walking around and talking to people.聽 Like I did in Quito, I am staying in the historic center of Cuenca.聽 I walk every ware!.聽 聽A big bonus for me is I get to speak my language, something I don't get to do much of in the States, obviously not as much.聽 I have found quite a bit of difference in our Spanish also, specially fruits, vegetable & spices.聽 But when I ask they are always ready to assist.聽
So far I Love it here.聽 Also the weather has been fantastic here in Cuenca.聽 All & all I know there is no Paradise in the world but so far is pretty darn impressive.聽 :)聽 Have a nice evening.聽 Martha
