Banos to Cuenca- Where to stop over?

We'll be traveling from Banos to Cuenca, (probably by bus unless train is a possibility - can't seem to find current info). Just wondering if there are any places in between that we should stop over? Any suggestions appreciated.

Hello,

The train to the south is not working yet and it doesn麓t arrive to Cuenca.
If you travel from Ba帽os to Cuenca you will find great landscapes if the weather if good.
The last time I traveled from Quito to Cuenca it was rainy and foggy all the way.
If you want to stop on the way I recommend Riobamba so you can make a short trip to Chimborazo volcano.
Other than that, well, there麓s many little towns but if you go by bus and decide to stop along the way it will be complicated to get another bus and the hotels are not good.
