I am not a lawyer, but as I understand it, Ecuadorian law defines marriage differently than the USA. Thus, it would not be complete marriage equality.

Now, it's going to be equal:

Ecuador's Constitutional Court approved equal civil marriage for same-sex couples. With five votes in favor and four against, the court said Ecuador can apply an opinion of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, which establishes more favorable rights for the LGBTI population (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex), without a constitutional reform. The court ruled favorably in the cases of Efraín Soria and Javier Benalcázar, as well as Ruben Salazar and Carlos Verdesoto.

Groups supporting marriage only between a man and woman have said the issue should only be resolved through a popular consultation.
