In Budapest, you won't be bored even on weekdays. If you are planning to watch the latest movies, you can find several cinemas聽in shopping centres and individual art cinemas as well, which are also offering discounts on different weekdays. Unfortunately, the famous Gell茅rt Spa and the Kir谩ly Spa will be closed for renovation for years - with the former expected to reopen in 2028 and no date having been given for the latter at the time of writing - but you can still visit the Rudas Bath or the Veli Bej bath as alternatives. And when the weather is nice, you can always go for a swim in the Danube!

Festival and cultural events in Budapest

Budapest's festival calendar is packed year-round. The famous in August remains the massive "must-try" concert event, drawing hundreds of thousands to the Island of Freedom. Year-round showings of premium classical music events are available at Liszt Ferenc Academy, 惭眉辫补 (the renowned 鈥Palace of Arts鈥), and Pesti Vigad贸. For contemporary music, the A38 Ship (a concert hall on a repurposed stone-carrier ship on the Danube) and Akv谩rium Klub remain the city's essential hubs for live gigs. In winter, the Christmas markets at V枚r枚smarty Square and in front of the Basilica are essential visits.

Things to do alone or in groups in Budapest

If you are looking for something to do alone, one of the best things to do is to go take a walking tour of the city. Don't forget to take your camera if you have one. Starting from the amazing architecture to the magnificent views from the hills in Buda or the green areas as Margaret Island and 痴谩谤辞蝉濒颈驳别迟, there are many things to discover across Budapest. You can go on your own, or you can join an organised walking tour, which will show you most of the highlights of the city with tour guides.

If you would prefer to do some shopping, there is a wide range of shops as well. To find everything in one place, just go to one of the shopping malls, like Westend, 脕谤办谩诲, Mammut or Ar茅na Pl谩za, and you can easily spend hours there. If you prefer smaller boutiques, visit V谩ci Street and Andr谩ssy Street for elegant fashion stores, or 狈补驳测办枚谤煤迟, along the 4/6 tram for cheaper shops.

When you are done with your shopping, have a nice coffee and a slice of cake in one of the traditional cafes, like 颁别苍迟谤谩濒 or , which were the favourite places of famous Hungarian writers and poets, or try out one of the thriving "new wave" specialty coffee shops like My Little Melbourne or Espresso Embassy.

Nightlife in Budapest

If you live in central Budapest, you can do most of the things you can do at the weekends, such as visiting restaurants, pubs, clubs, cinemas, theatres or exhibitions. The opening hours might be a bit shorter than on a Friday or Saturday night. If you are planning to visit a ruin bar in central Pest, it will be different, as they are open the same hours every day on the week. Still, it can be worth to visit them during weeknights, as fewer people means you don't need to queue up or wait for hours for a free table. Exceptions can be Wednesday or Thursday nights at some clubs which are popular with university students who prefer to go out on these nights (as many travel home at the weekends). remains the iconic "must-try" ruin bar, but for a more local student vibe, check out the places near the universities or the bustling corridors of Instant-Fogas.
