Does anyone know of any English book clubs here in Budapest?

Hi,

I haven't found any English bookclub either. I'd love to join if there is. Maybe we can start a new one?

Cheers, Aram

Hi Aram,

yes, I have thought about that too Aram. I'll send you a PM later regarding this. :)

Well, all you city critters go seek out a cafe that could use the extra business, then we'll send in our cutest to sweet-talk the owner into it, freecycle some big old bookshelf and haul it there, and bamm! We have ourselves the Expat-blog book club and Stammtisch at one fell swoop!
I love books too !!!!!!!聽 Would also be interested in a book club :)聽 Hopefully movie night on 6th March too :)
I'd love to know more about a book club in the city. I freelance write, which can be quite an insular occupations so if there's a book club going let me know.
I am not sure I know what's a book club, but it wont stop me to give you ideas :-p

in our lovely '脷jlipotvaros' (opposite to Margitsziget in Pest, not far from V铆gsz铆nhaz) we have this cute second-hand-bookshop/caf茅, one can 'borrow' books too (my father does). It is linked to a tiny publishing house for those interested;)
They do mostly Hungarian books, I am afraid, but do your sweet-talk;-p

Another place worth a look is the youthful-alternative 'Sir谩ly' in Kir谩ly utca. it has a larger room upstairs, which looks like the rest of some apartement with bookshelfs still installed and in use. Anyway, it is a cool place.
From the homepage it seems, they work as a cultural space, too (I didnt know) :

OFF as most good names, 'Sir谩ly' is really hard to translate: in the 80s, 'kir谩ly' (king) was used to mean 'awesome' in teen slang, in the nineties this was further slangified to 'Sir谩ly' (seagull)...
Hence the 'Seagull in the King street'...

Back ON: there are also a few tee-houses (te谩z贸, teah谩z) around that area, e.g. in J贸kai street,  non-smoking, non-alcoholic quiet places with a hint of new-age wibe.
Hi,
So did you manage to create a book club ?=)

This is a great idea!  Siraly would be an awesome place for a book club. I'd join - sounds fun.
Whoops - I failed at "quoting" Fireroller.
