About
I have just celebrated the first anniversary of my arrival in Timisoara. Retired, my finances no longer allowed me to live normally in France. I found a good balance in Romania. Romanians are very welcoming people. I don't regret my choice. it was very difficult given the hostility of my family who, like many French people, have a negative outlook on this country. The media convey biased ideas about the relationship between certain "Romanians" living in France and the reality here. I did not feel safe in France, a feeling that I do not experience here and my French friends say the same thing. I started to study Romanian which has many similarities with French. Every day I discover a new side of this city, starting with the facades and portals of the houses which speak of the past opulence of this city. Currently it is under construction for a rehabilitation of the streets and well-justified heritage. This means that I don't have time to get bored. The city is modernizing and there is everything you want but you should not start with ready-made ideas. Many of the shops are small "souks" where it is good to look for even the impossible to find, this adds to the charm of this city. Another charm is that of its greenery> There are a large number of parks, almost all the streets are lined with trees, all the buildings stand in the middle of refreshing greenery. In Romania, culture is part of everyday life. I often go to the opera, the prices are low and the programs are top of the range. The Capitol here called the symphony orchestra gives all kinds of performances and in summer even in the adjoining garden. In this season the streets, squares and parks of the city are full of events which are of course free. Timisoara is a candidate to be European Capital of Culture 2021 and I find this justified. This city is the crossroads of various civilizations, of various ethnic origins where everyone finds their place without clashes, it is not the perfect city <, which does not exist> but in comparison with a number of cities in France Timisoara would be in the leading pack. At almost 70 years old, I am starting a new life and I see my future with serenity and optimism.
