finster

My mistake. Somehow I had $1500 on my mind but it is in fact $800. I think the $1500 came from a recent inquiry into the cost of living for a couple. Thanks for the clarification! Read More

Best area for coastal living in Ecuador by kerriw

Hi all! We are a young, Canadian couple looking to move to Ecuador for a life-change and a change of scenery. The most important things we are looking for are access to the ocean (or lake), warm weather, food, social life, and authentic Ecuador ...

From my brief visits to Ecuador, I would agree that Manta would be the best starting point for newbies. It is more modern than other coastal areas and seems to have a larger expat community than other coastal cities. It is cleaner than Salinas and ... Read More

Thinking of Starting A Bar/Pub in Ecuador by Barryi2251

Dear readers. I have been talking to my spouse concerning starting another Bar/Pub in a tropical location. I have helped to open 2 successful Bars in the past, as well as a highly successful Restaurant chain. (Management) One of the places that I ...

from my brief experience I would say that Salinas would be my choice followed by Manta, Canoa and Bahia. Obviously, you need to do an exploratory trip to the coastal beach communities to determine your best location. Read More

Interest on Ecuadorean Bank Accounts by finster

Is it true that certain government insured banks and coops offer around a 10% yield? I've heard that JEP Coop does and is insured up to $31000. I have a decent amount of money ($100k)tied up in a Roth IRA (and about $100 k projected from the ...

Thanks ccc. I was told when over in Quito that the KEP Coop was guaranteed up to $31k in deposits. I am aware of the 5% penalty for taking money out as well. Still 5 % isn't bad considering what the rates are here. Anyway, it is just something I ... Read More

American TV channels by finster

I was recently in Ecuador and saw DirecTv dishes all over. Can you purchase a package with American channels such as CNN, HGTV, MSNBC, NatGeo, ESPN, History? What about the NFL or MLB package? If so, are the monthly bills super expensive?

I'm paying at least $80 here in SoCal and I don't get any movie channels. In addition the NFL pkg costs something like $300 extra. I am justifying my move right here! Read More
