About

Belgian, I'm expat since 23 years, and I lived in France, Morrocco, Philippines, Thailand, and Madgascar. Currently, I'm back in Philippines and I live in Palawan (Puerto Princesa), my best destination. Thanks to my work in IT and through Internet, I live where I have enough money for living. In each country, I worked for myself and sometimes, I created for me or for others small profit centers in IT and multimedia area. I've never been a tourist, only a self-made man working and living where he can.

Occupation

I am Self-employed.

Middle of nowhere...

Pattaya, Thailand

May 2007 - May 2009

Pattaya, Thailand

infographist/programmer, company manager
The best years of my expat life. There is everything for tourists and expats in Pattaya, probably because Pattaya is the red light district of all SE Asia. Nice place like Kho Samet Island with very nice white sand beaches. Everything in Pataya city, beaches, animations, high tech cinema/bowling, commercial centers, hypermarkets, hospital, clinics, many gated communities. Pattaya is really another world.
More and more expensive because it's one of the biggest place of (sex) tourism in the world. It's not simple for an expat to have visa to stay longtime. Strong rules.

Cagayan de Oro, Philippines

May 2006 - May 2007

Cagayan de Oro, Philippines

Nice place, but dangerous at this time, with many foreigners kidnappings, bombs between muslims and christians... But good memories.

Hello, 3000 per night it's ok. When my father visits me, it takes a room in Marina De Bay, on the sea. I can look it for you. About underground river, I have been very disappointed. If you don't have a very powerful flashlight, you see ... Read More

Accounts/identifications that single expats can acquire in the PI by Calif-Native

The other day I was sharing an experience with a fellow expat and he was in shock to learn that I had acquired various accounts and identifications that he felt were not available to unmarried expats. Therefore, I would like to open a discussion on ...

PLDT & what appears to be INTENTIONAL broadband choking activity by Calif-Native

This is both a "Mega vent" and what I hope to be a informational rant. It has been over a year since I have had PLDT 5-Mbps service (or being billed for it w/o receiving it). The first thing I want to try to do is put this rant in more ...

Ray61

@calif. Mine is all the time front of me and I never saw that and I've never tried to reset it myself through the PLDT menu (for PLDT support only). In Agoo (La Union) or here, in Palawan, I have usually good connection. Currently D7.5Mbps but ... Read More

@calif. I'm not sure about your conclusion; I experienced also bad connection these 2-3 last days, but this afternoon, perfect ! it's D7,5 Mbs / U.65 Mbps. But good for you. Let see if the connection stays like this. They said also, last ... Read More

Yr gaz example is not good. PLDT advertises for maximum speed and we sign for a minimum speed. And usually, they are above their minimum. Any way, do you have a small idea about how many expat members have other contract than the first 999P? Most ... Read More

IT is also my job and we cannot do anything about that. My download speed is from 0.1 to 8 Mbps, with an average between 1 and 2 Mbps and I pay 3.7K for 6-7 Mbps. I know that I'm in Philippines and I don't complain to PLDT, because they ... Read More
