Auckland, New Zealand
I went to Auckland on a working holiday visa, I stayed there for 6 months with a friend also on a working holiday visa. I lived in a shared apartment with 6 other people, me, my French friend, our Maori tenant, another English roommate, two Czech girls and an Austrian. I loved the landscape of New Zealand which is magnificent. I have been an extra in New Zealand series as well as in an American series which films on location.
I really liked the friendliness of the Maoris in New Zealand, very welcoming, always ready to help, it made it easier to settle in there. There is a huge backpacker community in the country and it's quite easy to meet a lot of nationalities! Also the country has adapted to this type of tourism, and the cars are quite cheap and well equipped!
The standard of food is passable, and good food is expensive. The level of rents in Auckland is quite high, and that accelerated my return to France. The minimum wage is derisory and you will have to work a lot of hours to be paid decently. Public transport is (almost) non-existent. If you want to travel freely, you need a car!
