My expat journey

Quito, Pichincha, Ecuador
I enjoy living in a duplex next to mi suegra and cu帽ada. I enjoy visiting with them and learning new Spanish vocabulary and conjugation of Spanish verbs. I' enjoying the World Cup F煤tbol games with them. I like to travel and visit in Ecuadorian places not too far from Quito, an exception would be the Gal谩pagos Islands. I know several Ecuadorians, Colombians, and Peruvians who do not speak any English, and I love to converse with them in Spanish.
I am a retired and disabled veteran from the U.S. Army. I used to be a mental health provider with licenses in clinical social work, chemical dependency counseling and domestic violence psychotherapies.
I like that the dollar is not the "bottom line" with many (mostly?) Ecuadorians is not the dollar as is the case in the United States and other "first world countries." I thrive on the caring, supportive friends and family who live in this beautiful, wonderful country.
I have made progress in acclimating to the 9,350 foot elevation in Quito. However, I dislike that I still have a ways to go. I also wish that more Ecuadorians could speak at least a little English. I'd read that English is taught in all public school grades and had erroneously thought this would mean Ecuadorians would speak English as a second language as it is in Western Europe.
