My expat journey

Battambang, Cambodia
Back home again.
Still retired.
Peaceful, zero / few ladies of the night. A good place to raise a family. In fact, probably the best city in Cambodia, in which to do so.
Not quite enough well stocked computer stores to do business with. Several stores, just lacking quality stock.

Battambang, Cambodia
Solar power array, rainwater harvesting project, and farming on a small provincial farm.
Retired
Unlike other areas of Cambodia, Battambang offers a more family like environment. Other cities are full of bars and whores, if that is your thing. Battabang is more reserved, more laid back.
There are not enough shops here offering necessary items for general construction, electrical service, etc. Too many dishonest computer repair shops.

Monmouth, Oregon, USA
First time visiting the US in many, many years. Odd being back, actually. I will return to Cambodia the first week of March, 2015.

Sihanoukville, Cambodia
What would you possibly do when living at the beach? Certainly not work!
Retired.
Sihanoukville is by the ocean, making it a great destination for those who love the beach. Cheap beer, if you partake - at $.50c US per glass, on the beach. Doesn't get much better than that, honestly.
All the petty crime that goes on, with little to nothing being done about it by the police. I moved, before I caught and killed one of those worthless thieves.

Pattaya, Thailand
Actually lived in both Pattaya and Bangkok, while in country.
Any kind of cuisine that you would want, you can find in Pattaya, almost 24 hours per day. Songkran, the yearly water festival, is like being in school again. Water everywhere, for about a week. Advice: wear nothing but swimwear and a water proof bag for your valuables, during the first week or so of April, each year.
Just about every woman in Pattaya is a prostitute, even if they are married. There is no "thrill" to the chase. It is all just a matter of money. Pattaya is nothing but one huge bordello. I do love Sangkran, though. It's a celebration that made me feel like a school boy again.

Cebu, Philippines

Auckland, New Zealand
Rented a car for the six months I lived in country. I drove around most of the North Island, all the way to the light house on the northern tip. Truly a beautiful country, even though I did not get to see the most beautiful part of it, the south island.

New South Wales, Australia
Traveled around the country. Covered all but Northern Territory and Western Australia. I really wanted to go to Northern Territory and drive a road train. (I was a truck driver in a former life.)

Cebu, Philippines

is there any online shopping in Cambodia like ebay, amazon, asos,...? by imkim
Hi all, I would like to ask if there is any website for online shopping like ebay, amazon, asos, ... in Cambodia. Thanks, Kim
Sometime back, I found www.fado168.com. Supposedly, you can buy amazon products through that site. But, be warned, they are not cheap. Personally, I wouldn't use the company due to the added costs. But, I am sure there are others who would. If ... Read More

The import duties would be too high, unless you have a 13a and are retiring to the Philippines. Then, you are allowed to bring in one container, duty free. So, unless that is the case, you would be much better off buying a car in the Philippines. Read More

A very flaw and superficial post. As I said there are bars, bar girls, hostesses. If you choose to visit those bars, the girls that work there are supposed to talk to you and maybe get you to spend them a drink. That is their job. But, if you are ... Read More

People that don't know anything about a place have the weirdest and most generalizing comments. In the whole of SE Asia you will find bars, karaoke joints (brothels for locals), bar girls, freelancers and prostitution. The difference is if you ... Read More
