About

If I told you about myself in a few words, I would tell you that I always wanted to live an “American” life. Originally from Paris, I flew with my husband to Toronto, Canada, in October 2010, then after a detour through Paris, I now live in Calgary.

Occupation

I am Employed.

My expat journey

Calgary, Canada

Since 2014

Calgary, Canada

High cost of living but higher salaries than elsewhere. Proximity to the mountains. Cool life. Perfect when you have children.
Alberta is still far from everything and employment is not plentiful there.

Paris, France

2013 - 2014

Paris, France

Return of 9 months for a contract to lead to a VIE in the USA which did not happen in the end.

Toronto, Canada

2010 - 2013

Toronto, Canada

Arrival in October 2010. 3 years in Toronto. Lived in two different neighborhoods. (High Park and Islington/Kipling)
Very dynamic city and the largest in Canada. Possible to find a small job quickly. More difficult to find a qualified job without having a lot of Canadian experience.
Absolutely exorbitant cost of living. Buying a small house in 2017 costs an average of $1.56 million and $1.2 million in the suburbs! Salaries also do not follow, making the acquisition of real estate almost impossible.

Paris, France

1986 - 2010

Paris, France

I was a web project manager in a Parisian communications agency.
Lots of things to do. Museums, parks, outings...
Buying a property when you are young is almost mission impossible, not to mention the very low salaries compared to the cost of living. If you like living in a rabbit cage it's perfect though...!

I've spent a considerable amount of time, money, energy, sleepless nights and more on this terrible city and I would like to warn you not to do the same. If you are relocating to Canada, I highly recommend cities like Vancouver, Montreal or Toronto. ...

I agree with you. I have been living 3 years in Toronto and indeed it's a city where finding a job is HARD. Some French friends told me it was the hardest in Canada because you compete with everybody as mentioned. Also, you can get dozen of ... Read More
