I live in Kathmandu, where I participate in the management, minority, 30%, since August 2022, of a 24-room hotel, which has a magnificent garden where I find mangoes, guavas, pomelos, pomegranates, persimmons (persimmons), another tree which produces fruits whose name I do not know (sorry, I should know...) and there are also three banana trees... which should produce a day! I stay there, and I generally work in the garden in the morning and in a caf茅 in the afternoon. I follow a routine that I sometimes find unoriginal, the same restaurant very often, and almost always the same caf茅 for work, Himalayan Java, but I don't find my life "boring", quite the contrary. I go to this restaurant and this caf茅 to work, because they suit me perfectly. The restaurant offers good food, healthy, vegetarian, the cafe is large, clean, its staff, young, courteous and polite, speaks good English, and I can generally use a good Wi-Fi connection, in short, I like these places.
I first have a master's degree in linguist, then a diploma in Arabic-English-French translation from the University of Algiers, a license in Arabic from the Habib Bourghuiba Institute of Modern Languages, in Tunis, a major in Russian studies, etc. I mainly work as a proofreader (French) and freelance translator (English-French, but I have already done translations into Arabic or from Arabic into French. Being a freelancer, I can work anywhere in the world, which I have done for the last nine years, as long as I can get an internet connection, which is usually possible, in most countries, places I have visited since 2014, especially in Asia In Kathmandu, I live in the Buddanath district, where the largest stupa in the country is located, on a UNESCO world heritage site, a place very popular with tourists...
The Nepalese are generally very welcoming, the country's economy depends enormously on tourism, but their smiles and their kindness are sincere, those of both men and women. Nepal is a very poor country, one of the poorest in Asia, and it is often in poor countries that we find the kindest, most generous people, unlike the inhabitants of our "capitalist" countries where most people only think about accumulating money... for themselves, without any intention of sharing it with anyone. I'm always a little amazed to see tourists, who often move in a veritable "herd", onlookers who go around the stupa in the wrong direction, which is not good for karma, equipped with a 2000, 3000 euro camera, which they wear around their neck, and who complain that their "3 euro" meal is still a bit expensive! It is unbelievable to see the stinginess of the most privileged. They deserve a few days of fasting to know what it's like to live on a poverty salary, 100 euros per month!... Which many will spend... in a single day of "tourism"!
Kathmandu is a very chaotic city, very polluted, and the situation is deteriorating over the years. Corruption is widespread, although it is not always very "visible". The country's "rating" internationally is rather bad, a Nepalese passport is not a very good passport for traveling, unfortunately for the "good" Nepalese. Also, regarding the many "visitors" who go to this city, around the stupa in particular, I am always a little astounded to see tourists, who often move in a real "herd", onlookers who go around the stupa in the wrong direction, which is not good for karma, equipped with a 2000 or 3000 euro camera, which they wear around their neck, and who complain that their meal is 鈥�3 euros鈥� is still a bit expensive!
