Grande-Rivi猫re-Sud-Est is a very popular place for tourists. As its name indicates, Grande-Rivi猫re-Sud-Est is home to a river, the longest in the country at 30 km. The source of the river is the Grande-Rivi猫re-Sud-Est waterfall. It is accessible from the sea or by walking through the cane fields. If you wish to get there through the beach, you will have to take the coastal roads. When you get to the beach, you will just have to follow the construction site. The waterfall is popular for the bubbling water that rushes over a wall of basalt rocks.
The change of scenery is total in this village. While walking through it, you will have to go to the Alain No毛l square, where the landing stage is located. It is the most frequented place of the village. You can relax in the garden or in the kiosk that has been arranged. It's like taking a breath of fresh air to get away from the daily grind.聽
It is also at the Alain No毛l Square that Mauritians and tourists take the boat to go to Ile aux Cerfs. But there's more. You can also take a boat to go along the river and visit the waterfall. An adventure will allow you to reconnect to nature. Better yet, you will find at the landing a ferry boat that goes back and forth between the village of Grande-Rivi猫re-Sud-Est and the village of Deux Fr猫res, which is located on the other side of the river.
Grande-Riviere-Sud-Est is also where an important page of the history of the country happened. While crossing the village, you will come across many stone buildings. It has preserved the old railroad that was built in 1864. It is the first of its time and was the link with Port-Louis. A vestige of heritage that unfortunately was left to abandon.聽
The village also housed several cannons from the time of the great naval battles. Although there are a few hotels in the area, including two five-star hotels, Grande-Rivi猫re-Sud-Est has been able to resist the intensive development that various places in the country are experiencing.
