The PA in our company is getting 1000 LYD/month.
She is libyan, and his hired on a local contract basis.

However in the oil sector, salaries can be 20 to 50% more.

Andrea - a word of caution. You can't come to Libya and expect to be able to work, straight off, the immigration rules are very strict and it's even more difficult for a foreigner to be issued a work permit.

Are you planning to come to Libya on your own, or as a spouse of someone who is already coming here with a WP?

If you are coming as an accompanying spouse, you will get a residence permit, but not a work permit.

Thanks Sandman.  Actually, I don't have anybody there.. no friends that i know of.. But my ex-boss will be working there in a couple of months.  He is waiting for his visa to be released and then after he's settled, then he would hire me.  InshaAllah! 

That's why I'm getting information as much as I could as I don't have any friends to ask to.  My ex-boss is also new in this country -- I think.  So, I just need to know the basics....

Well Andrea, the mentionned salary was one of a local employee.
Like all other places, expat salaries are higher than local ones.

Salaries in Libya vary a lot, from sector to sector, and from expat to local.

What would be an option is to negociate with your boss a 25% increase, along with Housing accomodation, medical insurance and some other benefits, like plane tickets....

Ok...here's a lesson in economics, it's called supply and demand:

The resource in this case is you.

When the demand for a resource exceeds supply, the cost of the resource increases.

Since there are 000's of Libyans with the necessary qualifications and experience to work as PA's, there is no demand and salaries find the free market level.

Why would an employer want to pay an expat twice or three times the rate of a Libyan's salary when he doesn't have to?

Because in most cases the Libyan's don't have the skills that a normal PA has, a good PA is worth his/her weight in gold

You also need to question some of the local qualifications a person has. A person came into our office yesterday with a masters in accounting, when asked the journal entry for buying fixed assets with cash (asked both  in Arabic and English) the reply was after a lengthy analysis.

Debit - fixed assets
Credit - receivables

regarding avobe subject new hotels will open soon and they look for PA to GM complex and another one for PA GM both two hotel chain,

and i think u will have good benfits like exectuive accommodation level and good salary and sure meals at main restaurant and free retirn flight tickets.

Normally , We do not really hear about recruiting when it is in progress..   Also, we do not see the opening of positions for expats on the company website.
