a) Theater house/Cinemas
b) Starbucks
c) Mcdonald's
d) Poker nights with friends

when I get back home, I'll be Walmart #1 fan, appreciate all the public playgrounds and state parks, enjoy the traffic signs and fellow drivers, going to movie theater and mall every weekend, visit all the different choices of specialty restaurants and will not take for granted the simplicity of getting everything done ie. visa, driver license,electricity, my trash pick up, police tickets, buying plane tickets and on, and on....long list !!!!!!

The wafting aroma of bacon being fried, not grilled for a good bacon buttie.
As for Starbucks over priced, and is that really coffee?聽 What about a good plain cup of black coffee. If God meant coffeE to be vanilla flavoured the bean would have it all.

Sounds great to me mate, Edinburgh lad myself, oh aye and looking down onto Easter Road, and dreaming of the next game to be played on the hallowed turf.

being able to go for a walk - safe from wild drivers, no broken up sidewalks, no hissing men, no blown kisses...

corollary: letting my daughter hop on her bike or walk down to the village to meet up with friends and go to the bookstore, coffee shop on her own.

bike riding

go to waterfront restaurant for a good mean with wine or beer

public libraries

parks with huge shade trees,

movie theaters

a sense of safety and order and predictability.

The only things I was able to get at Souq Talat were coconut milk and fish sauce.聽 Add local harissa + lime + cilantro =聽 poor man's Thai food.

It helps to be married to a thai lady who has lots of thai friends here. They all bring in ingredients in themselves or grow them. We have a garden full of thai chillis and basil

I'm Libyan , but i missing all what you mentioned above ,
especially the beer ,
sometimes i go to Malta just for 3 days , Friday,sat, Sunday for drink and get some dance in san jelian聽 ,聽聽Tunisia and Spain

others go more far聽 to get drink ,

about the cinema , we have new cinema hee in janzour , and aldahra ,
thai restaurant in聽 alsera area , but not that good

I have been back in Libya for over a year now and I miss Edinburgh terribly, especially in August during the Festival.

Old Reekie is the best place on Earth.
Aye, good luck to the Hibees for the coming season, You need it!

EL thanks for that. For me it is the most beautiful city in the world (when the weather is right). I spent the last 27 years of my life in Aberdeen (nice city, but not the same). Please don't tell me you followed the Jambos whilst in Edinburgh

I agree, Aberdeen is nice but not in the same league as Edinburgh.

I would love to say I was a Jambos follower- just to see your reaction- but, I preferred the Hibees. I lived in Leith for around 15 years back in the Eighties & Nineties.
One of my Sons supported Hearts, so there were always heated football discussions in our household.

We should meet up for a Jar of 80/- and reminisce

sometimes I feel that I miss everything.

quite night sleep. sunday farmers market. lovingly smoked briskets. proper sushi. bookstores and public libraries. decent gyms. parks. green hills.

but mostly: S H O P P I N G !!!

getting trafiic tickets doesnt seem so bad now, nor does walmart's rapacious work tactics, and next time i am confronted by a grumpy trailer-trash DMV employee, I'll give her a hug for being so friendly. I loved shshuhup's post!

I miss my tiger beers too! I know a place that sells 5 ringgit a mug in the smack of KL.

Island Bistro, Pavilion Mall sitting outside watching the world go by with buckets of tiger followed by the Haka for dinner on the way home there is no better way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
