As i understand,聽 all habitants of Mauritius with a visa, have access to free public healthcare? Do you get access to public healthcare also with a premium visa.聽 If not, i understand you have to buy a private healthcare insurence. As i understand a private healthcare insurance is about 200 euro a month, give or take. I understand its different levels & that the price differs due to your age & health condition,聽 but is 200 euro a month a realistic rough estimate. I understand i wont get the exact pfice until i sign the insurance.聽 I also understand its a good idea to buy a private healthcare insurance, also if you have access to聽 free public healthcare,聽 due to access to more advanced hospitals.聽 The reason i ask is that im considering to try living in Mauritius,聽 without making it definite by selling everything i own in Sweden & apply for a retirenment visa when i know it works for me to live in Mauritius.聽 Are there any other differences between living in Mauritius on a premium visa compared to a retirenment visa? Many questions, but i feel the urge to relocate to Mauritius asap.

Hey,

Even with a premium visa or a nomad one, you shall get free public healthcare at the local hospitals and small health care centers that are run under the Government.

But, it is advisable to have a private health care insurance as a lot of expats like private care. Every insurance package depends on what is covered. 85-100 Euros per month is a very reasonable amount unless you have some health complications and may require specialised private care, in that case please take the appropriate insurance package which will cost more but obviously cover more services.

Prevention is better than cure !

Myself and my children have been very well treated at Grand Gaude Public clinic ( small stuff) and Goodlands Hospital ( more extensive). We are on Premium Visas. Being from Kenya and having been given every imaginable medicine and vitamin, after numerous tests, we tried to pay at Goodlands, only to receive very strange looks. They also refused at Grand Gaube.

Much better than the NHS from what I hear - we were attended to in minutes rather than hours or days.
