Managing meals in Morocco

Cheryl

Hello everyone,

Managing meals day-to-day can sometimes be a real mental challenge, even more so when you land in a new environment, with different schedules, habits or ingredients. How do you manage your meal routine as an expat in Morocco? We invite you to share your experience in order to help fellow expats and soon-to-be expats.

What are the main changes you have made to your meal routine since settling in Morocco?

Did you face any challenges to adapt to new meal habits?

Do you cook fresh meals everyday or do you meal prep? Why?

If you live with your family, do you prepare meals for everyone for school or work? Are canteens available?

Do you usually eat out for lunch or dinner or do you prefer eating at home?

What surprised you the most about meals in Morocco, either in terms of habits, timing, portions, meal composition, food culture, etc.?

Share your insights, experience and meal routines!

Thank you for your contribution.

Managing meals in Morocco? hmmm

you don鈥檛 鈥渕anage鈥 anything here.

You just sit, and suddenly there are 14 dishes, 9 breads, 4 teas, and one confused stomach.

Cheryl

Hahaha, Heart Collector! I really like your answer. 馃槅

You raised a very good point. Maybe it takes some time for that confused stomach to get used to this new way of eating.

And that brings us back to my questions above.聽 They are meant to help new expatriates understand how to better handle all these changes by seeing how other members did.

Cheers,

Cheryl

I COOK FROM SCRATCH WHICH CAN BE A BOTHER BUT YOU GET USED TO IT MAINLY VEG MEALS AND ONCE A WEEK MEAT I FIND MEAT EXPENSIVE HERE COMPARED TO THE UK AND GET ANNOYED AT THE LACK OF CHOICE REGARDING CUTS OF MEAT WE RARELY EAT CHICKEN ITS NOT MY FAVE FOOD SO ITS CHUNKS OF BEEF AND NOW AND AGAIN LAMB.I LIKE TAGINE NOW AND THEN TOO.

REGARDING CAKES IM NOT THAT KEEN ON THEIR CAKES ALTHOUGH DO OF COURSE EAT THEM AS I CANT SAY NO TO A CAKE BUT I THINK BRITISH CAKES ARE BETTER SO I SHOULD START BAKING THEM MYSELF ALTHOUGH KNOWING ME IT WOULDENT TASTE THE SAME !

@Cheryl

Managing meals in any country really isn鈥檛 a problem poultry, beef, fish, vegetables, and all the basic spices are everywhere. At the end of the day, it just depends on whether you know how to cook and if not, congratulations, you鈥檝e officially started intermediate fasting

Heart Collector

@Cheryl

Solution, Part 2: Bring your wife or husband with you 鈥 but only if they know how to cook. Otherwise, welcome again to the world of unplanned intermiediate fasting!

@Cheryl

Solution, Part 3: And if you still can鈥檛 figure out how to manage, just fall deeply in love with a local girl 鈥 trust me, after some time you鈥檒l forget everything from back home, including your country鈥檚 cuisine! 馃槃
