Lock down is a too easily used word and lightly used.

Came back from Sihanoukville yesterday and no sign of any lock down except a local supermarket closed down.

Reason for wild speculations is the stupid French tour group that caused a surge in cases of 34. Knowing that they had been in Siem reap for a week makes one think how many people are infected by these brainless French.

They stayed in Independence hotel and that is now closed and used as a quarantine facility.

Phnom Penh has its share of closures like bars,聽 restaurants,聽 cinemas and shopping malls.聽 Museums are also closed.

In my area Tuol Tompoung there is still enough to do,聽 although some restaurants stick to take away or delivery only.
I had a beer today at a small place,聽 there was only one more customer.
I have a favourite place being an open air bar and grill,聽 fully equipped with sanitizer used by staff and customers,聽 the place is large enough to have a seat not too close to others so the social distancing is guaranteed.

Times are different now but no reason to panic.

Thanks for the information Joe.聽 Those thoughtless French Nationals have dealt a major blow to Sihanoukville. Hopefully common sense and common decency will prevail here.

My personal experience only,,,,,, everyone wants to blame someone, and I鈥檓 in Vietnam so they are blaming the U.K.聽 plane load full of people who brought the virus, I think it鈥檚 time we stop calling out people because of there ethnicity, or religious beliefs, or their skin color, as my president trump calls it the China virus, this isn鈥檛 doing any good, maybe a group or some individuals were negligent no questions about that, but blaming and calling out聽 a entire nationality鈥檚 isn鈥檛 helping , I鈥檓 sure nobody intentionally tried to infect others, people have denied me entrance to coffee businesses, even outdoor stands , here in Vietnam, as I understand them trying to protect their families and friends , it鈥檚 a world wide virus , it knows no nationalities or religions or color, but irresponsible聽 people are everywhere also , as I鈥檓 white and discriminated against now in Vietnam, I have black children back in the USA so I know a thing are two about discrimination and name calling , it doesn鈥檛 t help, it perpetuates hate , love and safety聽 and understanding for are fellow man is now more聽 important than ever, and no matter where you come from don鈥檛 be stupid , I personally know a lot of stupid Americans and please don鈥檛 put me in that category!

Sadly, across the world, panic has set in and this is causing a lot of grief on so many levels for so many people and industries.

Here in Cambodia, it started against certain nationalities, then against all the "barrangs"/foreigners, and the new trend now is against some religions聽 ... Also locals think they're somehow immune to this !?!?! .... I am not sure what kinds of people start these things but I really feel sorry for them having to live with such mentalities...

Unfortunately I am a USA citizen, and our president called it the China virus when 1000 people聽 died in a day , so sometimes it starts from the top , as a USA citizen I鈥檓 ashamed and disgusted with our leadership

Being in Hanoi now and until XX time and date a Vietnamese friend insisted on messaging me about one UK visitor and what they did. This does not discourage the type of behavior even the prime minister has decried. I鈥檓 also an American and I personally have not been denied service in my neighborhood. Perhaps because the coffee shops and market and restaurants have seen me since February here. Calling out people is not appropriate. This is a global pandemic. Global answers are needed.

The best thing you can do is wherever you are just stay. I鈥檓 pretty happy in Hanoi so I stay. I鈥檇 like to get to Phnom Penh. Will I? Who knows. Some of my Vietnamese friends that work closer with the government have told me to be patient. So I will stay. It鈥檚 not like I could go anywhere anyways. I can鈥檛 even leave Hanoi now 馃榾.

Considering that the virus started in Wuhan China and the Chinese government withheld information from the world about it for at least two months while Chinese citizens continued to travel throughout the world and spread the virus.Trump is correct.The virus is a Chinese virus.I am thankful that president Trump is calling the virus what it is..I am confident that if the European nations play nice and continue to spend billions on coronavirus medical supplies from China,and if China turns out to have a financial windfall emerge from supplying medical products to Europe,we will see more pandemics come from China in the near future.Political correctness is not at all helpful or honest.I do not condone rude behavior or bullying but I also do not believe in hiding reality.We can be polite without being phony.

I too am being treated well by my neighbors, as they have also seen me enough to accept me and mostly all interactions have been positive, we have no other choice but to isolate and hope the medical professionals will come up with something, not I have a hunch thing, but real science will come through for us , I hate to see my fellow Americans聽 die, regardless of which president you support, it鈥檚 painful to watch!

Since we have gone a bit distant from the original topic I feel motivated to say some things too. I believe the United States for all the denial by all branches of the government since about January this year should have implemented similar proactive measures that many Southeast Asian countries have. Look at a poor country like Vietnam. Yet they have managed this openly and with compassion yet still enforcing rules steadily. Taiwan and Korea too. The fact is the US was late to the game simply because our current administration denied it, ignored reporting and data presented by so many, and said 鈥減oof it鈥檚 gone in April鈥�. And who said that? Who had a feeling? Who ignored WHO?

In the end it鈥檚 not a Chinese virus. It belongs to the world now. It鈥檚 wrong to label it as anything but it鈥檚 true name. President Trump simply ignored the truth when it was to his benefit and everyone knows it. Now it鈥檚 time for the countries rich and poor to flatten the curve. Because it鈥檚 all of ours.

The U.S. government did not start the coronavirus.It came from China.Why blame U.S. officials?CDC in the American government offered test kits to the state of New York months before the virus spread to pandemic levels there,however the governor refused them.The young people refused to social distance and as a result the virus spread.It appears that the curve is flattening and that the death rate from the virus will not likely be as bad as was initially expected.There's no reason to use the coronavirus as an excuse to attack the U.S.If you want to attack a country for it attack China,they created this mess.

I do live in the U.S.聽 very comfortably in a beachfront house where I can fish or walk along the beach or just sit in the screen room in the front of my house and drink coffee and watch the porpoise swim by.I am certainly not delusional.I simply do not appreciate it when someone who's major accomplishment in life聽 is to have become a sexpat in Asia,,cast judgment on the president of my country.You are the very first Cambodian that I have known of to consider the Chinese as your dear friends.My wife is Cambodian and we have a lot of relatives in Cambodia who are not so fond of the Chinese.They live near Sihanoukville and have had first hand experience with the Chinese.Maybe you have had wonderful experiences with the Chinese.My relatives did not.They went to work to find the doors locked and the Chinese managers gone.No final pay no warning at all.One of them went to learn to be a driver for a casino and was told that he would receive half pay until he was trained.After he was trained his job ended.Not one of them ever want to work for Chinese again.I have placed my home for sale and will return to Cambodia and try and sponsor as many of my wife's relatives as I possibly can to come to the U.S..They do not want to live in聽 Chinese dominated Cambodia, and I do not wan them to have to.I have nothing against Cambodia.I don't hate Chinese people.However I do not like to see my family members treated unfairly and I certainly do not think that they should be allowed to infect the world with a deadly disease that will cost thousands of lives and trillions of dollars and escape unscathed.I am convinced that they created that virus in a lab while trying to make a biological weapon.Now they are hoarding masks and medical supplies to try and profit from the mess they made.

In defense of expat, yes there are plenty of USA citizens that聽 do just as our leader does , he is not alone with that way of thinking!
First defense is call names ( sexpat )
Second tell them how much you know about the subject ( I鈥檓 married to a Cambodian women etc, etc, )
Third throw out racial remarks , hating Chinese and really hate he鈥檚 not joking.

2) You refer other Expats as Sexpat and you yourself married a Cambodia lady whom I would assume you met her on St136!

3) Yeah, you are correct that I'm a Cambodian but I never said I consider the new Chinese as my dear friends.聽 It's obvious that the Hun Sen Gov is pro China.聽 聽What did the USA do for Cambodia except dropping bombs in the 60s and 70s that led to the killing Field?聽 And Trump had the nerve to send Cambodia a $500mil invoice for the bombs!

4) Too bad to hear of your relatives' employment problem (with the Chinese).聽 But hey, I also heard on the news, Trump would call it Fake news, that there are 10 millions have joined the dole queue in the USA recently.聽 Please help your president to sort out your backyard problem before you sell your beach house and head to Cambodia to help out.

The outbreak of this pandemic being global, it may be difficult to hold back from assessing the measures of different countries and discussing them.

However, this topic's subject is about the situation in Phnom Penh and hence, all posts should revolve around that.
