I only do medical insurance and don't bother with preventative healthcare.聽 In other words, when I feel unwell I will see a doctor.

Dude!聽 As a 65 year old who has gone through some pretty major health problems this year I want to encourage you to do preventive health care.聽 I'm (barely) here to tell you that there is no other sensation like having 72 million volts of electricity and fear coursing through your body while wide awake in an effort to get your heart back in rhythm.

Thanks Ziggy. You're actually younger than me but I do try to watch what I eat and do some exercise. Sometimes take tablets to lower cholesterol......

Ok Cheryl, you have to differentiate between preventive health and insurance-funded preventive health.

As I know, most insurance doesnt cover routine exams but sometimes hospitals or Drs have "preventive health" drives which in reality serve to get new patients with real health problems. Generally, nobody will pay for preventive health, especially if their insurance wont contribute. They wait until sick, period. But is it available, regardless of who pays? Of course. For a fee, like RM80 or RM800, Drs will screen you for various things but who wants to know they have some early disease? I bet nobody does.

That said, many people are interested in improving their lifestyle and so they are more aware today of measures like what to eat and how to exercise. Some people do everything they can. Malaysia isnt the place for healthy eating, though. I seriously doubt the govt will ever ban sugar, salt and oil, the main ingredients of all foods and some of our many killers.
