As you can see Expander, what we are saying is that any American (especially) style clothing and footwear (except for maybe leathers and Ugg boots) and you will fit in basically everywhere. No worries.

However, you should also be aware that the Philippines does have a thing about wearing clean clothes. Wearing freshly-washed clothes in public especially appears important. Even the poorest of families, and their children, will usually be wearing well-used but well-washed clothes.

Some Phils moms, without walls for their houses and a nearby stream for water, seem to be clothes-washing magicians. Sometimes their kids don't have foot-wear, but their clothes are spotless. Clean clothes appears to be a matter of acceptable social family pride and community standing. It's a tribute to Philippines culture.

And so will say, we expats would prefer you wear clean clothes also please matey?

Also roads in front of homes...   The road itself may be beaten up or just dirt, however, I see the local Filipinos sweeping any leaves or debris from the roads.  Homes in the Provence (i.e. Banaybanay) are the same... It may be a small shack, but the floors are clean...  Even dirt/sand is swept from in front or walkways.

Yes they do, they are called freelancers.

@expander28 One of the great things about the people here, is that they care less about brand names and styles of clothing than the people in US and UK. They do seem to love to wear slippers (my gf made my buy a pair as soon as I arrived here). So, do you and enjoy yourself!

Really?  I'd be surprised to see filipinos being MORE materialistic than Brits and Americans. I guess it depends on the area.
