As far as I know it's 90 days and then you go for the 1 year. Most people don't seem to have an issue with it but I guess you can always suggest that to immigration that you need more time to decide and see what they say? 馃槉

By the way you won't have 90 days to decide, you only have 30 days to decide, because you'll need to transfer the money to the account 60 days before you apply for the 1 year extension. It's a simple math

To my knowledge you can extend a visa, or arrival on excempt, with the maximum of 30 days unless you are married where you can extend with 60 days based on family reunion...

@martinoo2002 the thing is that I want to live in a few different areas before I sign a lease and of course can't open bank account without lease. Airbnb most of them are minimum 2 weeks. Any less and they don't approve and tell you to go to a hotel.聽 聽I'd like to try 3 or 4 different areas for a couple of weeks

Teatowel - are you already in Thailand or is this a hypothetical for the future?

If you are in Thailand - best to ask at the Immigration office

If not - you could always put the 800K in the bank and then if you change your mind just withdraw it

I once read (I think on this forum) that it was not possible to extend. If you can't show you had 800k for the past 2 months then you get a 10-day extension to pack up and leave and try again later. Again, it's only something I read.

You are going to need proof.of stay with a house owners book and owners ID.. if not, forget it. And this even in the case of extension.

Rbakker is correct. You cannot extend 90 days non 0/A visa. You will need to hop out and re-apply at a nearby embassy

If it was me I'd go to Thailand on a plain old tourist visa and extend as often as necessary until you find your desired location. Then exit and apply for the Immigrant visa.

The logic is sound and I agree, but you can only extend a tourist visa with 30 days and then re-apply toursot visa, which does not guarantee a positive outcome and can only be done 1 time...

Instead you can open a bank savings account without a lease contract cause you can stay in a monthly condotel for example or in a hotel at low daily cost and they also provide the immigration adress inscription.

On the other hand you cannot open a bank savings account without a NON-IMM O or OA visa so you need such a visa in any case, but the OA obliges you to have also a Health insurance that you don't need with the O visa.

Having the bank book allows you to ask a visa agent to check and provide a further extention.....

It seems you can just leave the country and start again (I don't have personal experience with this)

@rbakker from what I know your visa has ended and void and you need to apply again at embassy in a neighboring country
