Calling your bank back home ...

Wen Song

Operator assisted 'collect (reverse charge) calls' are as rare as finding a pay phone. Especially with today's mobile phones and their many various service providers.

And toll free numbers, even country specific 'toll free' number does not work with the various different providers either. Maybe on a landline but they're impossible to find as well.

And apps like Skype or Google-voice that are able to call '800' toll free numbers are all but phased out or discontinued.

So ... the question is ... does anybody know how to do those or have successful done those???

That is, make toll free or collect call (especially to the US or Canada)???

I do it with my usa phone number and wifi.

I have my 1800 number select my usa phone number and it's sim. That sim is selected to use the wifi first. So incoming calls from usa use the wifi and I use it to call out back to the USA so no billing for my calls incoming or outgoing.   I have used it this way  for over 3 years and have not been charged for usage by my USA phone company (T-Mobile).  I live in Thailand,  I have used it in many other countries in Asia with the same results.

I invested in a landline which cost 1.20 baht a month, well worth the price. I call everywhere on that phone. I can talk for 1 hour in Seattle for 3-4 dollars a call. Plus a reception is very good. You can also have this service set up on your cell phone. I don’t use a phone in Thailand, keeps me sharp and independent. 74 years old. I have been living in Thai7for 13 years.

@Wen Song

My Canadian bank, TD, accepts collect calls. The acceptance is automated.

If you deal with TD, the number is 416-983-5393.

Hope that helps.
