Looking to move to Surin Province permanently

danielboonjp

Daniel Boon; Australian from Cairns.

Looking to move to Thailand permanently, to Surin Province, where my Wife of 12+ years is from.

Wife has been to and currently living in Australia, since 2014; been with me through thick and thin.

I am looking to set her up in her homeland, hopefully before I fall off the twig.

Energy efficient home designer ex-builder, looking to build (already posted on the subject).

Mad BMW fan (considering bring one with us); sussing out the hoops etc.

Ex a lot of things .. Navy, finance, construction and solar industries; typical Aussie, chip on both shoulders

Wife is the Thai food business and I'm in the honey business (might look at importing at a later stage).

Welcome Daniel to the land of Smiles from a fellow Aussie m8, however I've been here since 1995 ;-S

Sounds like you're well experienced but if you need some ideas on how things really work here and tips and tricks to avoid the bigger pitfalls just DM me :-D

a man who thinks he knows it all, knows ***all

My best mate of 54 years lived in Pattaya for some 14 years, but moved back to OZ (Cairns) a couple of years ago

the consistent is always, there is change

looking to buy land (in Wife's name of course) and build in Surin Province.聽

considering bringing car and personal effects to Thailand / cars are dear there, and regards to tools and personal effects, debatable as to buying there as opposed to sending them over.

I would forget about importing a car mate, I looked into it years ago and importing a vehicle attracted聽 a 100% import tax! Not sure what it is these days but i鈥榤 certain it鈥檒l be something ridiculous. Bringing stuff over like tools and other personal possessions might not be so much of a problem if you ship them

in a container, I鈥檝e spoken to people here who鈥檝e done that before without any issues. Thaiwatsadu is a great place to buy tools here. Bargain basement stuff to top notch gear from

what I鈥檝e seen.

Good luck with your move, hope it all goes smoothly for you馃愤馃徎

@Cheryl

no worries ... 馃檹

@daviddomoney

it's what I call an unintentional tricky question 馃槉

I have a mate - Rod Young, from Brisbane - who lives in Buriram; he's fully set up there, grows avocados and vegetables聽 etc ... his Thai woman is from there

What I like about Surin Province is maybe what I like about Cairns; smaller population (about 160,000 in greater Cairns region) and Surin City has about 40,000 people and about 4 million in the greater, more far flung, Province.

I haven't mixed with ex-pats there purely because I'm not a pub type person (however, enjoy beer and more refined shots with beer chasers), but there are plenty about.

Surin Province hosts the Elephant Festival in November each year, so the place becomes a bit more lively then.

I just like Thai people, the culture and an expanse of non-suburbia ...馃槉

Sounds interesting to me, presumed it probably would be somewhere can see the real Thailand! Have to check out Isan at some point!
