low price new bike, wave or taurus

ancientpathos

Been debating about being new. What are the MSRP on the Honda Wave and Yamaha Taurus? What would be the approximate out the door price? Anyone bought new had problems with warranty work? Any infor would be helpful.  I am looking in Da Nang.

I have purchased 3 new motorbikes here in Vietnam since 2009. 2 Honda Wave S110, and 1 Yamaha. The second Honda was $1,100.- out the door...up about $150.- from the initial Honda. The Yamaha was purchased in Hue for about $900.- Most bikes in Hue were Yamaha and most in Saigon appear to be Honda. My personal preference is Honda. A 2 yr. warranty and every time I needed an oil change-tune-up, no additional cost. The furthest I have driven my bike was to Vung Tau, had to take a Ferry Boat across the water part way. Got my driver's license in Hue....interesting to note that the license has no expiration date. Happy trails.

You can't go wrong with either Honda or Yamaha. Do a few Google searches for dealers and prices in your area. The websites will likely be in Vietnamese, but sometimes can convert to English. Regardless, you'll recognize the prices. I found a shop Yen Hoa at 395 Hai Phong street in Hai Chau district. If the shops in Da Nang don't have websites, you can Google a shop in HCMC to get approximate prices. Add about 10% to whatever they quote, to get out the door.

I Googled "Honda Vietnam" and got this website:

Click on the tab "Bang Gia" at the top of the page.
Like I said, add about 10% to that price for VAT, etc.

You should be able to do the same for Yamaha.

Just to make you aware, a few years ago when the economy was hot, everyone and everyone bought new motorbikes.  Now the market is saturated but the supplies of new motorbikes keeps getting produced.  Added to that is the sluggish economy and you have many places offering incentives like dropped any listed price by 1 or 2 million just to move them out the door.  If you drive by the showrooms and notice they're empty of customers, then it's likely that particular dealership will bargain with you.

Also time your purchase to be a few months outside the Tết Nguyên Đán holiday since that's when demand spikes and prices across the board rises.

To answer your question:
From the Honda Wave Family pricelist is as follows (higher price is for the disk break versus the lower price for a drum breaking system):

Wave RSX FI AT - 29.590.000, 30.590.000
Wave 110 RSX - 20.490.000, 21.990.000
Wave 110 RS - 18.990.000, 20.490.000
Wave 110S Special -  17.990.000, 18.990.000
Wave 110 S - 17.790.000, 18.790.000
Wave alpha - 16.990.000

Per

TAURUS, 15.990.000 VND , 16.990.000 VND

The two entry models that are comparable are the Taurus vs the Wave Alpha, both around 17 million.  These are good for city driving only - they're not designed for the comfort of going cross country, although it can be done.  Add taxes, fees, and stuff, probably run you up to 18...but haggle and walk away from one dealership (I'm sure there's probably more than 10 in Đà Nẵng), do this three times and you could probably find something for 17 million out the door.

Thanks THD, went into 2 honda places with a copy of the honda prices which include VAT, their prices were 4 million higher, just waved my stack of dong and walked out the door.  Tired of being treated like walking ATM.
