Immersion is the best in my opinion. If you can't find a French speaking person then just start with the basics. Later, if you can, take classes at a university.

Brazilian-Portuguese is also very sexy!

I will join the basic class at the school. But in my experience when learning English...I went to the class for more 10 years is not equal with practice English everyday in 1 year.
Anyway: What is language sexy??? I don't understand sexy mean...???

You're welcome.  I admire someone who tries to study a new language on their own; as I have been struggling to learn Vietnamese for about four years on my own.

French is not too hard to learn on your own from a writing/grammar point of view, just like any language. But the key is always to hang around those who are native in the language and to just start talking!

I speak French, tips on learning...

I) "When in doubt, leave it out!" is what my French teacher always said. You will learn what this means when you come to pronounce a French word and wonder how many letters in that word you are actually suppose to say.

II) Don't question the grammar. Like English, they don't always follow their own grammar rules. "Why is it this way, teacher, that is not grammatically correct!" we would whine "Because we're French and it sounds better this way!" She would say happily.

III) Nouns have genders, get use to it.

French is indeed very difficult, I know, I'm French.

But you know already English, and the good point is that many words in English and in French are the same (with a very different prononciation...).

And even some words in Vietnamese are from French (ex: béton = bê tông).

But I can't give advices to learn by yourself, I have no idea I'm not a teacher, I guess it's like for all languages: watching videos, cartoons, series, with subtitles, reading comics... and meeting French people.

For sure learning the pronunciation is the priority. Then vocabulary.

Grammar is complicated but we understand if it is not respected and the verb not conjugated.
