Overstaying tourist visa
Bob K
I live in the UK, but want to move to DR very soon.
I have a couple of questions now:
1. Exactly what is that letter from my current bank which I need to open a bank account in DR? What does it have to contain?
2. I read earlier that Juan Dolio is a nice place to live. How hard is to rent a small apartment or studio (just for myself)? Considering I don't speak in Spanish at all yet. And approx. how much is it a month?
Thanks,
Joe
1. Do I need booked return flight ticket when I'm entering DR?
2. How many times can I purchase the tourist card in a row? Or is it cheaper just pay the fee when I'm leaving?
Thanks again,
Joe
1.聽 Your bank letter needs to state that you are in good standing and if聽 you have had any聽 loans they have been paid off.聽 it should also indicate how long you have been banking with them, they do not need to mention $$$ amounts.
2. Apartment rentals are easy to find but you need to be here with "boots on the ground" to find them.聽 Also why Juan Dulio?
3.Yes as a non resident you will need a return ticket. If you plan on living here full time you will need to apply for your residency
4. Just pay the overstay fee when you leave.
You will find lots of information here on this forum concerning living here, moving, residency and more.聽 Read, read, and read some more then come back with any questions.

Someone mentioned here that place, that's why I thought about it.
But actually I'm just looking for a nice quiet place to live.

What the airlines do is the risk YOU take. They can and sometimes do make you buy a聽 expensive return ticket at the gate.
Buyer beware!
Will that change? No idea. The reality is we gave up guessing what they might do here.
A few things that I did and/or happened to me.
I overstayed my tourist visa earlier this year, I was hit up for my overstay fee when I was going through customs. Paid with my credit card, given a slip, and went straight back to the agent with no extra waiting in line and on the way back to the States I went USD $53.00 less. Translates to RD$2500.00.
Purchased One-way ticket to The Island twice. I flew Spirit one time and Delta this time. Currently here on a one-way. There were some pop ups when I was doing my online purchase as to check the country specific requirements. I was also prompted at the airport during self service check-in to enter my return date. Since I didn't know, the self service check-in process halted and I had to see a airline agent. That was same time I dropped of my baggage. I was permitted to continue on.
Another thing that happened to me was I had to return to the States for a family emergency. I purchased a ticket with the airline Pan American World Airways-Dominicana (PAWA). I used my credit card that didn't have raised embossed letters and numbers. The money was debited from my account. PAWA said for security purposes to ensure no one was being fraudulent using another persons card that I had to purchase another ticket and I would be refunded. Well, I asked for a supervisor twice and was able to fly without an additional purchase. So, if you have a new chip card without raised embossed letters and numbers double check with your carrier. They said that I received a warning during purchase online. Most likely true, I had a lot on my mind at the time so pay close attention when using new cards with print.
I am currently an overstay. I had received some information from another thread here in the RD Expat Forum. I went to the Direcci贸n General De Migraci贸n located at the intersection of Av. George Washington/Autopista 30 de Mayo and Calle Heroes de Luperon in order to extend my 30 day tourist card. I was crossed up with some outdated fees and the new fees. So, it seemed to me that I could save money by doing it there as opposed to the airport. I ascertained that the fees are the same wether you do it ahead of time or upon exiting the country.
At the office the information desk provided a form with all the fees and a few hoops to jump through most of which I had learned from another thread here in the forum. I translated the hoops.
a) Form duly filled and signed (this had to be a valid reason why you were overstay and notarized).
b) Copy of the Air Ticket or Ticket of Boarding. c) Present original passport
d) 2 Copies of the passport number where the personal data is.
e) 2 Copies of the last entry to the country.
"I had c, d, and e as per the information here on another thread and was unaware of the a and b requirements."

Again the warning -聽 one way ticket if you do not have residencia then you takes your chances!!!!!聽
Paying at the airport seems a whole lot easier!
Yes we are hearing some of this but apparently it is hit and miss and only multiple repeat offenders.
I've been coming over to DR since 2014 and every time stayed about 9 weeks.聽 Each time I've paid the overstay fees (2500 RD)
Reading the other threads am I likely to have problems next year when I arrive or should I apply for a 3 months tourist visa before coming over?
Thanks.
PS.聽 By the way Planner, that eye specialist I mentioned to you in Santiago was excellent.聽 Everything he said was confirmed by the specialists in the UK.
Regards
Ducketts
Honey there is no 90 day tourist visa.聽 Only聽 30 days. I wish there were 90 day and 180 day visas. That would only make sense to me!!!!
What happens to the money is out of the control of the individual but the transaction is not.
