Family reunification

@dj68

Someone posted in a group on facebook the person applied on the 20Th October 2025 and got approved on the 26th march 2026

Hi everyone,

I recently applied for family reunification within Belgium. I was wondering if there is also a way to follow your application from here or if I always need to ask the municipality for status on my dossier? The municipality asked me to contact them only after 6 months to know if the file has been approved or not, but I would like to  track the progress.

@cdvs99

you can follow up through IBZ -

@dj68

After how many weeks until it start to show up on this link ? And what ref did you use ?

Hello Everyone,

If someone wants to make a family reunification application.  Sponsor lives in Belgium. The sponsor currently live in a studio but just signed a contract for 2 bedroom accommodation starting in 6 month's time to cover for the family when they arrive. Would that be accepted as proof of accommodation or sponsor will have to wait until they move into the new accommodation before initiating the process? Thanks

Hi, you will probably have to wait until the contract for the 2 bedroom apartment starts. The apartment contract needs to be registered (myminfin) as well and I guess that is only possible when the new contract officially starts.

@dj68 this is only for people applying outside of Belgium via consulate. I am applying directly at my residence municipality in Belgium

Anyone got approved recently? Please share the timeline update with us. Thank you

Congratulations @Bems1

Hello everyone, after obtaining a work permit and residence permit, how long do we have to wait before we can apply for family reunification for my wife and son? This will be our first time coming to Belgium, and we have a 1-year work and residence permit. Could someone with knowledge please provide detailed information?

Just to encourage anyone going through this situation: it’s not easy, but it is possible.

I applied for family reunification (with a Belgian spouse under Article 40ter). I live with my parents and had not registered any official document to prove that I was living there rent-free. I only included an explanatory letter.

I submitted my application after my first month of work (I had previously been a student). I only had one payslip for an incomplete month, which meant that I did not even reach the minimum income requirement. I also provided my employment contract. Even with a full month’s salary, my income was only around the minimum required amount. The income requirement has since increased, meaning that my income would even be considered too low. I also did not provide an expenses table..

The process took 5 months (Dec-May). I received an approval without being asked to provide any additional documents, and without hiring a lawyer.

I simply wanted to share my experience to let others know that it is possible. Good luck to everyone going through the process!

Hello everyone,

My husband's employment contract in Belgium has been approved, and the visa process will begin soon. At the moment, our whole family is in Turkey. We would like to apply together and move to Belgium as a family through my husband's work permit and residence permit.

Could anyone with knowledge or experience on this matter please advise us on what steps we need to take?

We would greatly appreciate any information or guidance. Thank you all in advance.

Hello everybody,

I need a little clarification..

I am working here as a non-EU citizen and I recently got married in my home country.

So now we are about to apply for the family reunification visa, but before that, do I need to inform any authority in Belgium and change my marital status? If yes, then who to inform and what documents do they normally require?

Anyone got approved recently? Please share your timeline.

@TJ_Bel

I was in similar situation. You need to bring the original marriage certificate to the commune/city office and register as a married person. In my case, the original marriage certificate was with my wife who was applying visa from outside europe. So the commune asked me to wait and register once she is here.
