Belgium Nationality 2025
@Tanvirul Hoque
Applied before payment increased and quite fast processed. Actually im impressed. I even didnt wait as long as i wait for L card.
But what i have recognised after increase is, there are plenty slots are available on the web site for appointment.
Hi everyone,
I applied for Belgian nationality two weeks ago at a city near Gent. The police came today and asked some simple questions, but my Dutch isn鈥檛 very good, and I didn鈥檛 answer very well. I feel a bit embarrassed about that.
The officer mentioned that she doesn鈥檛 make the decision herself 鈥 she just does the paperwork and sends it to the parket, who will decide.
I have a couple of questions:
聽 聽 鈥⒙ 聽 Does the fact that I didn鈥檛 answer very well matter for my application?
聽 聽 鈥⒙ 聽 Does the fact that the police came so quickly mean my application might be processed sooner than the usual 4 months?
she also mentioned having several speeding tickets can make issues for nationality application. I have two speeding tickets in the last 2 years. Do you think it is an issue?
@Ehf2025
Hi !
No need to stress about the police visit. It鈥檚 not even a legal requirement anymore, but some communes still do it out of habit. The officer might ask you a few questions in Dutch, but that doesn鈥檛 count for nationality, your language level is judged only by the certificates or diplomas you hand in with your file.
If the police came quickly, that鈥檚 a good sign that things are moving, but it doesn鈥檛 always mean your nationality will be approved faster than the usual 4 months. It still depends on how quickly the parket processes your case.
As for the speeding tickets: a couple of them isn鈥檛 a problem as long as you paid them. They only really care if someone has lots of fines or more serious convictions.
So honestly, it sounds like you鈥檙e fine, it鈥檚 just a matter of waiting for the parket to do its job.
@Ehf2025n
I have not been visited by police.
However i have 3.1 Dutch and 2.1 French certificate.
I paid aprox 4.000鈧 parking+speed tickets in last 5,5 years.
@maharaji1984
Hi, thank you 馃檹馃徎
I feel much more at peace now.
I hope the result comes soon. Do you first see a letter in Mijn Dossier about nationality, or do you have to wait for the gemeente? I live in Deinze, and the staff here are really kind and friendly.
@maharaji1984
Hi, today I got my nationality:
Timeline: 12 of June, 2025
Approve: 01 of October, 2025
No visit of the police in Leuven

@Dil D
Congrats!!
when was your file sent to the parquet?
@Smlg
The same day that I applied, I sent an email a month later asking after my application and then they said that they did the same day when I signed my application
@Dil D
Where do you check your application?

I would be embarrassed as well if you were applying for citizenship and couldn't speak the local language. I just hope that you continue to learn it after getting citizenship.聽
@SimCityAT
Not nice and quite judgmental of you.
You don鈥檛 even know if the person speaks French or German..
@SimCityAT
You live in Austria, no? Yet you show up under every Belgium-related post just to leave negative comments! You鈥檙e not even an expat here, you clearly have nothing else going on in your life, and you spend your whole day criticizing people on this platform. Most of us come here to share and get info and we move on with our lifes, but you鈥檝e been hanging around for 10+ years just doing this. Honestly, it鈥檚 pathetic. Someone should report you.
@SimCityAT
I鈥檝e read your other comments elsewhere. You are clearly not an expat. If you can鈥檛 add a constructive comment or don鈥檛 have any real experience with the matter, it鈥檚 better to remain silent.
I already reported you by the way.

Not at all, if they spoke 1 of the official languages, there wouldn't be an issu茅. They never said that, though. But I stick to my post, you should be fluent in one of the official languages. How do you integrate without it?
@SimCityAT
I鈥檝e read your other comments elsewhere. Does it hurt that your party, Vlaams Belang, will never be part of a government? By the way, you鈥檙e clearly not an expat. If you can鈥檛 add a constructive comment or don鈥檛 have any real experience with the matter, it鈥檚 better to remain silent. - @Ehf2025
I am an Expat and have been in several countries. It's stupid that you can get citizenship with just a couple of diplomas and only speaking a few words of the country's language. Like most countries, you should speak at level B2-
@SimCityAT
No one asked for your opinion. I鈥檒l practice because learning a new language is both fun and a valuable skill. And clearly, you鈥檙e not an expat鈥攐therwise you鈥檇 understand that moving to a new country while studying and working drains so much time and energy that proper language learning isn鈥檛 always possible. Most language classes don鈥檛 even fit an expat鈥檚 schedule. The 鈥榮ome diplomas鈥 you dismiss is in fact a master鈥檚 degree. I doubt you have one yourself, otherwise you鈥檇 show more open-mindedness. Better you just focus on Australia, where you live.
@Ehf2025
I was checking in mijn dossier, however, one week or one week and half before the official answer. My nationality changed on mynexuzhealth app (using Android phone), so it was a good indicator that I got it
before event I saw in min dossier

No you shouldn鈥檛. You don鈥檛 need to have any real level, and for sure not be fluent. All you need for this procedure is an A2 language certificate. A certificate, you see? Not an actual level, not real competence, just a piece of paper. That鈥檚 what the legislator decided.

mynexuzhealth
This app always shows nationality BE, even if you don't have it (yet).
1) Region: Flanders
2) Date of application: Late May
3) Submitted permanent residence card, language test, integration certificate, application fee transfer confirmation, translated/apostilled birth certificate, and payslips from the last 5 years (I had a half a year gap without employment).
4) Date of receiving the nationality certificate: mid-September (checked via My Dossier and later a copy received by post).
No police visits. Commune accepted my application for the ID card (don鈥檛 need a passport atm) immediately without asking to wait a single extra day.
@Shgshdhdh
Congrats!
Commune accepted my application for the ID card (don鈥檛 need a passport atm) immediately without asking to wait a single extra day.
That鈥檚 how it should be, despite what others here say.
What province do you live in? I鈥檝e heard more and more that Antwerpen and Vlaams-Brabant no longer have police visits, while Oost-Vlaanderen and West-Vlaanderen still do.
@Shgshdhdh
Congrats!
Have you received the nationality slightly before the 4 months waiting period?
Around which month you started noticing activity on 鈥渕ijn dossier?鈥 and how does it shows up?
@Mia0210
East Flanders
@Smlg
Yes, a week before or so. I saw that the prosecutor accessed the file two weeks after I applied. No relevant updates after that up until the certificate was uploaded.

Hello, How would you know if the "prosecutor accessed" your file? I mean which website and tab?
@Shgshdhdh
2 weeks?! my file was forwarded end of August and except for my own activities there is nothing..
@Ehf2025
Hi, Actually i see it when i am about to pay a fine
from justonweb.be
Probably was there for long time but i didnt see it
And same day i made an appointment for ID . Following days recieved certificate on my postbox.
Dears,
For who doesn't know how to track your Belgian residence profile activities in general, go to the following link with your ID card connected to the PC:
Then according your preferred language, choose, here I'm pointing to the Dutch Flemish one:
Then click on the top right tab:
After that, on the left pane choose "Consult my file" and on the middle choose the 2nd tab for showing you the history:
I hope this is clear!
You can also check if the Belgian Nationality Attest is available by clicking on the 3rd tab on top "Mijn attesten" then click on it in the left pane and see if it will appear!
Good Luck!
Hello, My Birth Certificate is in English and Apostiled, Does it need to be translated in Dutch or French? If yes, does the translation need to be apostile too?
@Hodaya Biske
Only translation needed, no more apostille if you do here in Belgium.
@maharaji1984
In my case, I did Apostille of my English birth certificate in India (State + MEA), then I translate it in French here in Belgium (Translate both Birth Certificate Front page and聽 Apostille from Back page), after this I did not Apostille that translation again.
