Belgium Nationality 2025

Who will Apostille the translation? The translation is done by the Sworn translator in Belgium.
@Hodaya Biske
You definitely need to translate it. I am not sure about apostile though. But it would be safer if you do it.

No need for appostile.
The apostille should be on the document itself. For sworn translation - the translator ties document and translation and puts his stamp, that is enough.
Has anyone requested nationality in Brussels 1000? I would like to hear about your experience.
I emailed the commune 4 months after receiving the acknowledgment of reception of the complete file, citing that according to the law (article 15, 搂3 du Code de la nationalit茅 belge), the prosecutor has 4 months from the date of the acknowledgment to give a decision.
They replied saying that the whole procedure takes 6 months. I'm not sure if taking two months extra is reasonable or if it can be considered a denial of my rights.
@Jeconr
Your understanding of Article 15, 搂3 of the Belgian Nationality Code is correct: the prosecutor has 4 months from the acknowledgment of receipt (accus茅 de r茅ception du dossier complet) to issue an opinion. If no opposition is made within those 4 months, the nationality declaration is automatically acquired by law,聽 the prosecutor can鈥檛 intervene afterward.
In practice, communes sometimes mention 鈥6 months鈥 because of their internal administrative processing time but that doesn鈥檛 extend the legal period.
After the 4 months have passed without opposition, your nationality should legally be considered granted, and any further delay is administrative, not legal.
Hi everyone,
When I applied for Belgian nationality I submitted a legalized, translated copy of my birth certificate. I also showed the original, which the town hall took. This original is a replacement and cannot be reissued.
Will they return it after the nationality process is finished? Has anyone experienced this?
@Smlg,
Commune with return the documents. When you receive a letter granting Belgium Nationality, there will be one more letter asking you to collect your original documents.
@RKE09
thanks 馃槉
I鈥檓 really frustrated because they took the original too. I didn鈥檛 notice at the time, and now I urgently need it but have no idea how to sort it out.
@maharaji1984
Did you actually give them your original birth certificate?
I checked with my town hall, and they told me that:
聽 聽 鈥⒙ 聽 If my nationality gets approved, they鈥檒l make a Belgian copy of my birth certificate in the DABS system, and I鈥檒l be able to pick it up.
聽 聽 鈥⒙ 聽 If it鈥檚 rejected, I can either accept the decision or ask for the file to be sent to court.
If I accept, I can get my birth certificate back from the commune. But if it goes to court, all the documents 鈥 including the birth certificate 鈥 have to stay in the file.
Every time I have given an original I wait for them to take a copy and give it back to me, If I have to send it in the mail, I make a copy myself.
Never had an issue.
@Smlg
Yes they took birth certificate. Other documents given back (Payslips , compte induviduele, language certificates,)
I think IBZ doesn't issue for you a Belgian Birth Certificate as you was not born in Belgium. But just a Nationality certificate.
@maharaji1984
I have a Belgian birth certificate even though I was not born in Belgium.
I had to provide my foreign birth certificate to my commune to correct a mistake my name in the Belgian national registry. The commune produced a Belgian birth certificate during this process. I don't know if this is typical or the commune gave me a nice byproduct
.
I got it back from the commune (bxl 1000) by email when they finished the process of correcting my name. I can also see it online in mon dossier.
Dears,
Regarding the Belgian Birth Certificate, I had a situation of registering the foreign on to get a Belgian Certificate and I explained it here:
/en/forum/europe/b 鈥 nship.html
I hope it's clear!
Also, it worth to mention that I applied for the nationality in Stad Gent and they returned to me the original birth certificate on the spot after taking a copy from it.
They didn't keep the original!
@Ahmed_Talaat
That is what they were supposed to do, but instead they took the original and the copy -.-
@Ahmed_Talaat Can you please share your timeline? I am waiting for police to visit from a month and now I am getting anxious. I know from some people that in Gent the police visit is must. Please share your experience. Thanks
@Hodaya Biske
Here's what happened with me:
Application date: June 26
Application Location: Stad Gent
Police visit: August 9
Certificate in "Mijn Dossier": October 7
Registered my birth certificate and did "Voornaamswijziging" on October 16 (as mentioned in the topic I posted earlier)
Applied for ID and Passport on October 23
Received SMS that passport ready on October 28
Collected Passport on October 28 in the evening working hours
Received ID pin code at home on October 29
Collected my ID on October 30
It worth to mention that I was traveling from July 16 to August 9, I informed Stad Gent while I was applying, they gave me a number and informed me to call and ask for the responsible police officer of my living area, I called him and he mentioned that the time I'm coming back he will be in a vacation and he will come back in September, and if he had my file before my leave he would come, otherwise it will be in September.
When I arrived home on August 9, I arrived at noon, I had a visit from another police officer in the evening - lucky me - then I mentioned to him the police officer holiday thinking that it was him and he said no that is my colleague, so they sent me another police officer.
Please don't hesitate to ask for anything.
@Ahmed_Talaat
Do you (or anyone else ) remember from who was the last activity on mondossier ?
@Smlg
In "Mijn Dossier" I had 3 activities before the nationality certificate from the FOD interrogating my complete file on:
- 22 September
- 29 September
- 30 September
@Smlg
Did you get your nationality already or not yet? Could you share your application's dates, please?
@Ahmed_Talaat
Not yet, I applied on 05/08 but file was sent to parket on 20/08. I saw an activity from SPF Interieur ( offices des 茅trangers ) aka FOD on 06/11
@Jeconr
After requesting the document from municipality , i was also able to see in Mon Dossier.
@maharaji1984
Fingers crossed it will be accepted so I won鈥檛 have to reapply and pay 鈧1,000聽 next time馃槄
@Tanvirul Hoque
Vilvoorde.
I noticed another activity from SPF/FOD on November 7th. I hope that鈥檚 a good sign and that they鈥檙e working on my file.
@Ahmed_Talaat
Yes I am living in Gent. I am waiting for the police visit, as i have a month holiday planned in December
In my "Mijn Dossier", there is no activities regarding nationality application for 3.5 month, is it normal?
@maharaji1984
Try to check your file couple of weeks before the certificate of Nationality and you could see something like this (Dutch version):
Hello everyone,
I鈥檓 worried that my nationality application might be rejected. I鈥檓 a victim of identity theft, and there is an open investigation in another region under my name. Even though it鈥檚 been almost a year without anyone contacting me and my criminal record is clean, I鈥檓 still concerned.
Do any of you know a good lawyer I could contact?
