You鈥檝e done good, that鈥檚 good progress, just take your time though as Romanian roads in my experience can be lethal. Quickest I ever did it was just over two days in my landrover discovery but was on my own, the drive was not for the faint hearted. On average though it鈥檚 takes me 65-67 hours to get to the Black Sea area near Varna from East Anglia and have driven over many things and all take about the same, most interesting journey was in my old dilapidated 1967 mgb roadster back in 2008 she鈥檚 still going lol.

We are currently in a traffic jam about a km before we need to turn off. No police, miles of traffic behind us. We were doing so well 馃ぃ

Oh not good, I recall a similar time at the Romanian Hungarian border on the Hungary side when I was transporting our mad German shepherd over. Despite being held in a metal cage in the car she managed to escape, climb over all the stuff as the car was rammed and landed in my lap whilst driving and just smiled at me.

i had to pull out of the massive queue and luckily found a farm track, parked up tied her up and had to fix the damaged cage before bribing her with chicken pieces to get back in the cage. Not funny at the time but now I can laugh about it! Keep plodding and drive safe Rgds Ozzy

We made it eventually. We may have made a beginners error? We drove to the Giurgiu bridge crossing and we had major delays as they鈥檙e replacing the railings and it鈥檚 one way traffic controlled. When we have to go back I am hoping to find alternate routes but we did notice huge border checks at Austria causing major jams.

We are now recovered though 馃槃 and happily cleaning, getting plumbing and electrics done. Dog is happy apart from loose dogs which scare her.

聽 I have driven many times. I once had to go home in a rush because my daughter was in hospital. I drove from Bulgaria to Calais non stop other than 4 hours to sleep. In fact, I've had to do the same thing several times. Sadly she died whilst we were here on New Years Day so that's the last time.

I drove here last month. I was Just entering Hungary when my hotel cancelled on me. I decided to continue driving to my place in Bansko. Set off at 7:30 am and arrived at 11:30pm with a 20 minutes stop.

I've done it in a van which was tiring but I currently have a BMW 5 series estate which makes it much easier.

The real hero is my dog who lies in the back and is good as gold. (Hes not so well behaved outside the car though 馃槃

No air con in a cheap van made the journey intolerable and my husband has a bad back so we can鈥檛 do the journey in a short time.

We did the return journey on a different route. We used the Giurgui Bridge but early on a Sunday and that was easy. We stayed on Romanian border then Hungary then Germany and then Laon, France. It was a lot less stressful and certainly fewer traffic jams but I messed up the e vignettes for Hungary so have been fined for a beginners error 馃ぃ

I will be driving over from the UK around end of September with a van. Mostly full of tools and furniture etc that we obviously cant take on a plane.

Other than driving about in Bulgaria for a month in June / July, I haven't really got much experience of driving in Europe.

I will be driving to North eastern Bulgaria so the most obvious way into BG is over the bridge at Ruse. However, when we were there in June- the Ruse crossing was an absolute nightmare with road works and traffic.

I am considering the bridge at Vidin, but open to other ideas like ferry etc if anyone can recommend anywhere?

I'm in West Bulgaria and use Vidin bridge. Now that Bulgaria and Romania are in Schengen it was a breeze.聽 After showing my passport in Dover, it was never checked again.聽 The only time I had to stop was to pay the toll at Vidin Bridge.

We are north east, near Silistra and did consider Vidin but didn鈥檛 do it in the end as by timing the Giurgui Bridge early on a Sunday there were very few Lorrie鈥檚 and queue was shorter. I did check out ferries but they seemed infrequent and at the time water level in the Danube was also a problem.

We haven鈥檛 decided a route for when we return, hopefully at end of October if Visa goes ok as it seems you can鈥檛 avoid roadworks whatever way you try.
