House Insurance

Do you have house insurance ? Is it worth buying it? What are your feelings about it? We live in a largish Bulgarian village in the Burgas area.

Definitely worth getting it, and especially if you're away from the place a lot. Don't assume that the neighbours will scare away any potential burglars - just read the newspapers to see how many Bulgarians get burgled, even during the night when they're asleep in their own beds.

BG insurance companies have a well-deserved reputation for not paying out and loading you with excessive conditions - my (Bulgarian) wife won't touch them.聽 We've used Intasure (UK-based) for years, and we're very happy with the policy and service; as a general rule, they'll insure a rental property or a holiday home but not one that you own and live in permanently.聽 However, if you're a post-WA Brit then you usually don't own your house - it belongs to the company.... 馃槑

We're living here in the village full time Jimj close to the city of Burgas. We will have to go to the UK when husband's sold his late Mums house would we be able to get insurance while we're there? We did have it when the house was our holiday home but not for a few years.聽 So the next question is would we be able to insure out home in the UK.

You can insure with Intasure online.聽 I'd be inclined to give yourself a tenancy agreement from the company and then insure it with them as a rental property; they don't ask who the tenants are: for example, my in-laws are officially my tenants in my village house.... 馃槑

@JimJ

Would the document I did as company owner saying the company gave me (and a separate one for hubby) permission to live in the house qualify as a tenancy agreement for Intasure?
