New digital nomad visa

janemulberry

So, the information I've found online is sketchy, but apparently Bulgaria started accepting applications on December 20 for a new digital nomad visa category, quite different to the previous freelancer visa (no language proficiency requirement!).

Does anyone here have some reliable information about this?

From what I've read, I am likely to qualify for one of the categories, and it would get us to Bulgaria a year sooner than waiting for the pensioner visa. I'm assuming if I get it, I can stay a year on the digital nomad D visa then at the end of the year apply for the pensioner D visa.

Well spotted!

Main points: 31k euros annual income requirement, and 3 categories. However, it seems it has a time limit (1 year initial + possible 1 year renewal), so one would need a transition plan if wanting to stay indefinitely as a non-Nomad. :-)

One year would be enough to get us through to me getting my OAP, so I could then apply for the pensioner D visa.

There doesn't seem to be a great deal of information about what documentation is required, but I think I could qualify under the third category. I read that they started accepting applications for this visa on December 20,  but it seems a lot of the "official" sites and documentation still aren't mentioning it.

The essential part of the Digital nomad Visa is that it can be renewed only once, so after 2 years the applicant must think about some other option to switch if the main goal is a Permanent residence.

Also the income is based on the size minimal salary in Bulgaria for the past year, os for the first applicants it can be lower.

More info you can read in my website here or you can find the link in my profile -

Thanks so much, Vasilev!

That's very helpful. There's a strong chance I will be in touch for assistance.
