BGP.bg no longer trading?

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

Back in 2007, my family purchased a few small rural properties near Valchi Dol. As was common at the time, we were advised to set up Bulgarian companies to own the land. The companies and annual filings were handled by a firm called BGP.BG.

Unfortunately, BGP.BG now appears to have disappeared. Their website is down, emails are unanswered, and I've had no response via WhatsApp.

My mother, brother and I each own properties through Bulgarian companies, and we're concerned about whether annual accounts, company filings, or other legal obligations are still being dealt with.

Has anyone else used BGP.BG, and if so, have you managed to contact them recently?

Can anyone recommend a reliable English-speaking accountant or lawyer in the Varna / Valchi Dol area who could:

• Check the status of our companies

• Confirm whether any filings are outstanding

• Help transfer management away from BGP.BG if necessary

• Check for any outstanding taxes or liabilities relating to the companies or properties

We're based in the UK and haven't had to deal with any of this ourselves for many years, so any advice from others who have been through the same situation would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

You weren't "advised" - years ago foreign citizens weren't allowed to own a property with even a small piece of land and therefore were required to form a company to own it.

You have a few questions you need to check. First of all, and hopefully not relevant in your case, if you haven't been to the property for a long time it's possible that someone may have taken adverse possession of it.

Secondly, inactuve companies are no longer required to make nil teturns, but if any weren't filed in the past you're likely to have fines, and interest, piling up. There's also a couple.of administrative items that you have to deal with following BG's entry to the Eurozone.

How long is it since the last returns were filed? Are you sure that any were actually filed? Have the municipal taxes ever been paid (if not, you'll have back taxes, fines and interest to pay)?

The company seems to have stopped trading about 10 years ago and their domain registration lapsed in 2018, if that's of any use/interest to you 😊

Thanks for the information. BGP were actually still responding to emails and dealing with matters for us until May 2026, so I'm not sure the "stopped trading 10 years ago" information is correct.

At this stage I'm mainly trying to establish whether anyone has dealt with them recently and, if not, whether anyone can recommend a reliable English-speaking company in the Varna area that can take over the ongoing administration for a foreign-owned property company.

Ideally we'd like someone who can review the current position, check that all filings and taxes are up to date, and then continue handling any annual company obligations going forward.

@AMK888

They haven't filed any company returns since 2015 and abandoned their domain in 2018. If they're still answering emails that tends to suggest that they're just trying to make a few untaxed pennies as individuals. They haven't advertised any new properties in the last ten years either, so I'd definitely describe them as "non-trading".

If you want to appoint someone to check the current status of your companies' properties, you'll need to produce a company memorandum to that effect, appointing you (or whoever) as representative of other officers of the company as necessary, and then create a notarised POA for that person. IDR if the BG embassy in the UK has a notary in its Consulate, so you may have to come to BG.

It's quite a mess to have left hanging for so long...

I think you would be wise to listen to @JimJ! He's lived in Bulgaria for many years and knows how things work! If at times he takes a more pessimistic view of situations, unfortunately that is often justified. Unless you have seen proof that this company was actively managing you and your family's companies, it's possible they took the money but didn't do the work. I hope they haven't, but keep that in mind as something that could have happened.

It might be helpful to start a new thread titled "Accountant/ company management wanted in Varna" or similar, as the very specific post title may not attract replies from those in the Varna area who could be able to make a recommendation.

Thanks for your help @JimJ and @janemulberry - I've taken the advice and started a new thread to try and field some recommendations.
