Current vs old pension letter-D visa/residence permit renewal

Hello, I am looking for some information re: renewing the D visa and using the original apostilled pension letter. Do you need a new letter every time you renew the D visa/ residence permit?

Visa D or Prolonged Residents Visa?

I was told just a new pension letter for my PRV renewal,

No apostille, no translation.

Just get a copy made by a Notary in Bulgaria who will stamp and sign it to confirm it's a genuine copy.

Check with your local States migration office, they will give you a list of what is needed.

Unless there's some issue like you didn't apply for residency while the D visa was current, or didn't stay enough days in Bg to meet the residency rules, my understanding is that you don't need to go through then entire D visa process again.

Applying to renew your residency permit is generally a much simpler process. As @neevemike says, you shouldn't need all the same translations and apostilling of paperwork.

I inquired because a woman and her husband from the US got hung up at Sofia migration office because her federal pension letter was not current and they did not accept the state issued apostille for the document. Getting a federal apostille for the same is very difficult.

Ouch! From what I hear, experiences at migration offices do vary widely and what one office (or one official) will accept, another don't. Were they able to resolve the issue?

It certainly seems to vary from office to office. We were told to present the old one each year. Our office were only interested in the bank balance.

The Great God Google AI informed me that, yes, a new apostilled state employee pension letter is required. My guess is that the same would apply to the SS benefit letter, just much, much harder to obtain.
