We've got a new reformist government.聽 聽It's almost like we had a revolution.聽 The relief is palpable.

The previous Orban government was always up to no good and no-one knows what kind of mess they left behind.聽 聽People will be doing jail time when it's been worked through.

If we had the Euro, we'd have oversight, hopefully objective and fingers crossed, less BS and less shenanigans.聽

Thanks, I will need to sleep on that one. It will be cheaper to fly with less hassle lol. I don't think my back or hips will survive lol. I can't get there till Christmas this year; we had a loss in the family, so that put us right back. How are u finding it over there since they changed the money to euros? It bent my purse when I was last there; everything was so much, even my elecric i was paying 80 lev a month. Now it's 170 euros a month; I am going to buy batteries for my Christmas lights and use them instead. Even my water isn't funny. I wish they kept the lev - @megs44

A few of us have noticed higher electricity bills, but that big a jump makes me wonder if someone is also stealing your electricity. When you are there, check for any different wiring.

Jane, I think you are right, someone is inching it, or there is something wrong. Im still not convinced you can blame the transition to adopting the Euro for the higher prices in energy coasts. But its the wars going on; Ukraine, Russia, Iran, Israel, USA. They have messed up the markets so much over the last year(s).

well to catch my neighbour out , ive been broken into my house was smashed up and i didnt know , the police closed my door and my neighbour went round and lleft all my doors open so i had every animal living in my house, plus the old neighbour was doing her shopping in my house and stole loads, ive put cameras up and security now , they are not the best they left my alarm going off for 2 days ill i got someone to reset it . plus my neighbour is still stealing my fruit trees and wood and water when she can , i wish i never bought the house but i do love bulguria - @megs44

At the official fixed conversion rate of 1.95583 BGN per 1 EUR, 80 lev equals about 40.90 euros. A jump from roughly 41 euros to 170 euros is a massive real price increase of more than 300%, far beyond any normal currency conversion adjustment.

My first electricity bill after the changeover was larger than I expected, though it was also my first winter month in the house and I used electric heating a lot, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect! When I checked, the electricity usage wasn't too bad and the cost per kW was exactly the same, a direct conversion from the BGN price. But on the second page of the invoice, there were a lot of extra fees bundled in. It also wasn't long after I'd one to EnergoPro to change the electric bill to my business, having wrongly assume it had already been done, so that may have been a factor too. The bills seemed to settle down the following months.
