Hello,Im actually from the Greece Forum,over in Athens,I did laugh at this Steven,is it true you might be shot at whilst cutting your grass?I havnt stayed in UK for so long Im out of touch,electric cutters do annoy some people thats why I always used an antique old hand one,that sound is quite soothing

Very observant @concertina, I didn't spot that snippet. I didn't mow my garden at all this year. It's a jungle, and I'm sure my houseproud Bulgarian neighbours are horrified. But now I have an excuse: I'm scared of getting shot. :-)

Hi Athens鈥︷煒乶o not really, but the ghettos here are getting closer.聽 I consider my bungalow, which is 500m from the Pennine way a little diamond and love tending my garden, especially the Dahlias.聽 My frustrations lay at work where I get apprentices who can鈥檛 calculate the area of a circle or think WW2 started 鈥渟omewhere in the 70s鈥濔煒�
聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 I was chief mechanical engineer at Edinburgh airport and had to shut down the fire hydrants for five minutes to remove a Legionella trap鈥�..oh boy. I鈥檝e just had enough and want to go somewhere I might be more appreciated.

Ha ha,watch out for flying bullets,Its good to hear of house proud neighbors,no dirty lot next door.These Greek are not too good about being tidy,they throw,leave old rubble,rubbish everywhere.

Steven,your Pennine Way sent me into jealousy mode.I miss,long for British countryside,hedgerows,deciduous trees(yes,they are disappearing)I guess Bulgaria would be the same,nice.I wrote a poem about country life,a gypsy with one of those painted wagons and the horse,Thomas hardy always makes it sound good and Robert Louis Stevenson on his donkey around France in days gone by,never to return to our life-styles now but I see on utube, alternatives,old and young breaking out from all this,learning to live with less.I bought a very small cottage in a beautiful but run down mountain village,well the cottage is a bit run down too haa,lots of widows,generally old folk, after selling a large house we built.They seem quite poor so Ive been giving stuff away,They cannot believe their luck,they say,why are you doing this...because I dont need six beds 20 blankets,30 sheets,enough cutlery for an army etc...oh for just a few things.The main goal now of course is to cut our living expenses where possible,but Im wondering about Bulgaria adopting the Euro,surely life there will be more expensive for everyone?

聽 聽 聽 聽I lived in Germany (Bavaria) and managed to get a ticket. I set off one morning really early and drove down through Austria and north Italy to Lake Garda, where I pitched a two man tent. I then drove to 鈥� fair Verona where I lay the scene鈥澛� see the Romeo and Juliet balcony. The ticket was for Madam Butterfly in the amphitheater there, it鈥檚 still one of my best days, I鈥檓 greedy maybe but I want more and hoping to find little adventures like that don鈥檛 come working to rule every day.

If you like amphis and music... then you might be pleasantly surprised to learn that Bulgaria's got you covered on this one. It's not just cheap houses and rakia! Check out Plovdiv's Ancient Theatre of Philipoppol, high up on a hill overlooking the city. They've had opera, Sting, and Tom Jones.

Thanks again Gwynj. We usually go on a road trip visiting different towns when we鈥檙e on holiday. We鈥檒l be doing this I hope next summer in Bulgaria and welcome the tip.

Yes,I took a look at this theatre,its mighty impressive,the Romans certainly built and left behind a huge legacy of monumental structures etc..pity there isnt the money to rebuild all of the main building where those statues are.My husband who is Greek always goes on and on about the (clever Greeks)I shoot him down haa.I read about the Minoans though on Crete,they had a far better way of filtering their water than the Romans,they found that in one populated area the drinking water was somehow much cleaner than another area,they saw the only difference of the area was that the clean water town had the water system running through volcanic rock so they dug out some of the same and placed it where the water of the other town ran through,voila...clean water...they didnt know the physics of it just that it was cleaner,in fact the volcanic rock was taking out heavy metals which can run through the rock strata with the rains.Certainly Bulgaria is an interesting country with lots of potential for exploring and I can see why people opt for migrating there,and by the way there is the money but its needed for the rockets for trips to MARS and wait for this...a new concrete will be available for use on MARS...it is made of聽 urea,sweat and another err,human caste- off,its true,they say it will last longer for MARS,Im laughing while Im typing,I cant help it,it was on the news yesterday.Have fun everyone.

Talking of cultural events, Veliko Tarnovo has an annual opera festival at the castle ruins there. We had a trip planned for last year but of course Covid stopped it. They didn't bother organising the event this year. Hopefully 2023!
