Taxes Italy/France

alessiacorami

Hi,

I am Italian and working in a research centre in France (Aix en Provence).

For the 2024 I had to pay taxes in Italy too, they were very expensive.

How can I avoid to pay taxes in both countries.

You will only pay taxes where you were a full-time resident, so if you were living in France for more than 181 days, France is where you pay tax. You go to the tax office in Italy and tell them that you shouldn't be paying them tax and give them proof.

Thank you for your reply.

I thought so but it seems it doesn't work in this way. Fo r what you know, am I oblidged to sign up toAIRE? I don't have anything in Italy, house or other stuff. I am working only in France.

Should I have the residence in France, too?

I don't want to pay all this money

Thank you

Are you a cross border worker?

It's important to know if you drive daily from Italy to France but don't sleep in France.

If you sleep in France, it counts as a day in-country but if you leave each day, you're not in-country.

Also, you should get a tax certificate from the French or Italians and give it to the other tax office to show you paid.  You can also ask them to give you a certificate of tax residency to prove where you live all the time.

You shouldn't be paying twice.

Your employer should help you too. Ask the HR department.

I don't commute. I have a contract for an apart. I will ask to the HR. I had the document frm the tax I paid in France.

Then you can use it to show the Italians the taxes are already paid in France.

The tax treaty between France and Italy will apply.
