Just a little problem with the forum.
The first sentence is:
Hi all, my name is Luca, I'm an Italian guy and I'll move to Budapest on 1st October because I accepted a job offer from an American company based there (my starting day is 21st)

You will definitely need to register first (with an address backed by rental contract, plus land title and such) and then get a TAJ szám (social security number) after.

You would use the 62.pdf and as the forms tell you, you'll need a proof from the owner of the flat that you can reside in their property.

Finally, the paper you are to get from your employer must be the  certificate to show that they are your employer and will pay the social security contribution for you.

You will need this later, plus a registration certificate, plus the proof of your Hungarian address.

The key issue with your plan might well be the idea to rent a room and then get the owner to sign the needed paperwork.

There are a few specialized room sharing pages around on the net that you can easily google. Then ask them specific questions to see if it would work. I am doubtful about the chances.

Sorry for the late, now I have a little more time.
Maybe what I'm writing it could be useful also for other people

Starting situation:
- Italian ID card
- Italian health insurance card
- Accepted a job offer

Arrangements to do:
- TAJ szàma
- Registration Certificate (+ address card)

Arriving date in Bp: 1st Oct

2nd Oct
I went to the company where they gave me some documents (I don't understand Hungarian but I suppose it's something to prove that I'll work for them) and they told me to go to Közép-magyarországi Regionális Egészségbiztosítási Pénztár (it's close to Arpad Hid) for TAJ szàma.
As I wrote the problem was my address.
Solution: the girl in the office didn't ask me it :-) I mean, she told me to fill an application form but she didn't tell to fill the field about address
Result: I got the TAJ szàma (this one: ) and I just had to show my Italian ID card and the documents
Level of English: there is an English speaker girl so it's not so complicated; the guy at the entrace doesn't speak English but I showed him the documents and he understood what I had to do and he gave me the right ticket

3rd Oct
I went to the Immigration Office in XI district to get information about Registration Certificate
What you need is:
- employment contract (I still have to begin to work because my starting date is 21st Oct but anyway the company gave me)
- rental contract
- 1000 HUF stamp (you can buy in post office)
- copy of your ID card
and obviously you have to fill the application form (P.S. I was right, it's 62.pdf, check my previous post)
I asked also for bank statement but she told me it's not necessary (I suppose because I have a job)
Level of English: no problem, the girl at information desk speaks English

Meanwhile I got a flat and the rental contract so

7th Oct
I went again to the Immigration Office with all these stuff. The girl asked me also my health insurance card (I gave her the Italian one, I still think that to get before TAJ szàma is a little bit irregular) and she gave me the Regisztràciòs Igazolàs (I mean, this: ). She told me the address card will arrive by post.
Level of English: no problem, the girl spoke English

I sent an e-mail to the company in order to know if I have something to do more (they should take care about tax number), I'll keep you updated

funny episode: I couldn't open a bank account in Citibank because I just have an Italian ID card (that it's all in Italian): they want documents in English or Hungarian

Oh, I love the part when they send you to the post office next door to pay 287.84 HUF + tax in stamps or on a "yellow check" :-)

Bank account: I thought there was an Italian bank operating in Hungary, Banco Popolare or somesuch, but their website says they sold their presence.

Comparing to Italy it's cheap: I could pay 5€ more or less or sometimes even more :-)
For the bank account I opened it in FHB (I read a thread here in the forum and it seemed to have one of the lowest costs for ATM withdrawals)
Ah, just to keep updated: the company will take care about tax number so my arrangements are over
