Looking for help with receiving mail in Budapest 馃嚟馃嚭馃摤

rkkhannanova

Hi everyone!

I鈥檓 currently not in Hungary, and I鈥檓 expecting a few important letters (official correspondence) to be delivered in the coming weeks.

I鈥檓 looking for someone in Budapest who would be open to receiving these letters at their own address. Ideally, you could either:

鈥 hold onto them until I come to pick them up personally,

or

鈥 forward them to Spain (I鈥檒l cover all costs and offer a fee for your time).

There will only be a small number of standard letters (no packages involved).

Happy to discuss compensation for the help.

If you鈥檙e open to this or know someone trustworthy, I鈥檇 really appreciate it 鈥 please DM me 馃檹

Welcome,

I'm not sure anyone here will give you their personal address. I know I wouldn't to a complete stranger. But I do query why the letters are being sent to (Budapest,) Hungary, only for them to be sent to Spain?

Why can't you just have them sent to Spain in the first place?

This sounds very fishy to me.

Why not ask one of the neighbors in your building to hold onto them or forward them to you?

Hi! Thanks for the honest feedback 鈥 I really get where you鈥檙e coming from.

To clarify: I used to live in Hungary and still have several banking services tied to my Hungarian residency and documents. Unfortunately, they can鈥檛 send new cards abroad 鈥 they鈥檙e only allowed to deliver within Hungary to the registered address.

I鈥檝e recently moved to Spain and won鈥檛 be back in Budapest in time to collect them myself 鈥 that鈥檚 why I was hoping to find someone locally who could simply receive a few letters and either hold onto them or forward them.

Totally understand it鈥檚 a personal ask and not everyone would be up for it 鈥 I just thought I鈥檇 try, in case someone here had experience with mail forwarding or offers something similar.

Appreciate your message and wish you a great day! 馃檶

Ahh now that makes sense.

Maybe you could have them sent to a Mailbox in Budapest?

rkkhannanova

That鈥檚 a great suggestion 鈥 and I鈥檝e actually started looking into that too!

I鈥檓 checking a few virtual mailbox or mail-forwarding services in Budapest, but there鈥檚 a bit of a catch: some banks don鈥檛 allow delivery to commercial mailboxes (especially if they鈥檙e used by multiple people), since it might not pass their address verification or compliance checks.

That鈥檚 why I thought I鈥檇 first check with the community 鈥 in case someone has experience with this, or occasionally helps with receiving mail for expats.

But yes, if I don鈥檛 find a personal solution, a paid mailbox service might still be the fallback option. Thanks again for the suggestion 鈥 much appreciated!

IDK for sure but often in Hungary they want you to physically go into the post office and sign to receive mail.

You should ask a mail forwarding co of you go that route if it is possible for them to collect and sign for you. They may have a form you need to OK for them to collect some official type post.
