No not at all! In not saying I won't get frustrated but ain't worth moaning about it! It's the way the maltese are it's always been the same! And what u mean by that go back to England lot! I'm English but if its such a chore being there why are you!!! And no I don't have a maltese passport yet but hopefully will get one. But my husband and children won't. I don't have rose tinted glasses on at all! I just can't see the point of moaning constantly about it ain't gonna change is it! We just all need to get on with it.

I know the feeling mate! It's said when one is trying to share some of his own personal experience but there is always someone who feels negative about it or sees it on a different way.

denise - i dont just moan about it I do something about it and try to change it rather than just sit back, or just accept that is the way it is and just let things happen.... I try an change it if I can....it may never happen...but hey i dont roll over for anyone.

That's good but your not bigger than Malta or more powerful than maltese law and it ain't never gonna happen but good luck and I hope u succeed suppose it make everyone's life easier and the moaning might stop x

Hi Denise,

We all fell in love with the charm, many of us have had connections to Malta for over 5 decades. We understood the day to day frustrations and accepted them as little Maltese querks.

Most of the rants on here are aimed at the government systems and I am sure, any of us, from any country, would moan about our own government at some point.

Until you are here and you realise that you can't register your children to school, the knock on effect of finding childcare as a result, the costs. Until you are faced with not being accepted at the hospital with a sick child, without costs, all because you have the wrong paperwork. To realise you have spent several days, waiting in queues, the bus fares that you are paying as a tourist or high water and electric bills, I feel that you need to not judge our comments.

By moaning and ranting, occaisionally someone comes up with a solution. If we had kept it all in, we would not find out how, where and when we should be, to aviod these situations.

A forum is going to attract moaning, as this is where we ask the questions!

If none of us enjoyed the upside, we would go back but the good outweighs the bad so we stay and we moan a little!

I truely hope that you never face any of this, perhaps the moaning on here will tell you what needs to be done so you don't make our mistakes.

nobody said I or anyone else who moans is bigger than Malta - but to say we should stop moaning and just accept it...... is wrong. nothing was ever achieved by sitting back and doing nothing - go back to the very late 19th and early part of the 20th century and the suffragettes - they did a lot of moaning and campaigning for change to get women the vote and without it they woudl'nt have it. Change is good, (well most of the time) if you dont complain when you should or dont agree with something no matter what way it is then you are as much part of the problem as the problem is.

Malta's law - who is talking law here - this is legislation that Malta agreed to on accession to the EU - interpretation of that legislation is something else i freely admit.

so you agree that to succeed is good at least - but how can that happen if nobody complains or moans.?????

or maybe i should just shut up and accept that to try is wrong.

So Denise, are you actually on Malta? Your profile indicates you haven't left UK yet.

You also need to understand the difference between moaning and critical observation, though I would agree that there are a minority who seem to be actively pursuing their own political agendas. If you spoke to Maltese living here then you would also find that they聽 criticise the same issues that are discussed on this blog.

I also note, with some irony, that you are not going to pursue your own citizenship applications in UK because it is too much 'slaver' which I conclude means 'hassle'?

And I agree with you all about trying to change the wrong but is all you are all doing is moaning like mad on here go do something about it then!!! Like I said I will get frustrated I know that but to many know it all on here who just constantly moan on a daily basis on every single subject in every single post on here so Caroline at least you said the good outweighs the bad but some of the others I can't see how they are enjoying life in malta at all cos they are on here 24/7 moan moan moan moan! If malta is that bad that you need to and have time to comment on every single post and moan on every single post then don't think Malta is for you as it's obviously making you miserable! I dont think we know it at all - collectively we have a lot of information some good some bad some indifferent..and every single one of us learn something new each and every day..... but overall the forum and its users help a lot of people make crucial life changing decisions based on actual "living in malta" experiences not just 30 visits of 7-10 days.. and you will find it completely different irrespective of your current opinions. They will change. and you will moan. But that isnt necessarily a bad thing as from moans and complaints come ideas and sometimes solutions....everyone knows malta isnt perfect nobody expected it to be thanks to the users here... but there is nothing wrong in striving to make it better or improve things. It is a fact that some people dont like change......

I wish I found this forum years ago. I have been through hell and back and even faced being deported with the lack of information and being given the wrong advise.

In a situation like that it can feel very lonely. I love Malta and strongly believe that this is one of the best places to bring up children and I will always fight for that.

Just to know, that there are others that have faced similar problems, reduces those fears of being alone in a foriegn country.

I applaued the occaisional moan, without it, I would have never renewed my residency document!

there are two distinct types of moans

1. Malta doesn't do it the same as my country - well tough, abroad is different

2. Malta isn't abiding by its own laws, either passed by its own parliament, or signed up to on joining the EU - that is completely different, and any of us has every right to complain about those circumstances

Agree with both and when looking at 'the bigger picture' I don't see any fundamental differences between most countries' governments and law makers and that of Malta's. The methods and causes may be different but the outcomes are very similar.
You just can't please all of the people, all of the time.

Thanks for the positive news, we are still waiting for our private health care to come through, currently into week 4, once that comes we shall be taking a trip on a Thursday to hopefully get the rest of it sorted.

And for anyone who thinks living in Malta is a chore ........... Try living in Egypt, where unless you cross the powers that be's palm with silver, you may as well throw it in the bin.聽 Malta is a doddle, every country has its foible but after all, we chose to come here, RELAX and ENJOY.聽 Life is too short to worry !! :)

Jees guys some of you really don't know how lucky you are to be here. I spent nearly 2 years in south africa trying to get my spouses permit - a permit that requires nothing more than proof of who you are, where you live, and a marriage certificate pretty much. There is a continent where bureaucracy and red tape really get you down. Two years I didn't exist there - I couldn't open an account anywhere, couldn't have a bank account, do a driving licence, get a job. It was a nightmare. I spent many years in Zambia and Namibia where you had to travel for 18 hours to go to an office to get things sorted because they wouldn't accept telephone conversations or emails. As Meddie has said, people here do want to, and will help if they can. How nice is that. In the African countries I've lived in they don't give a rats bottom unless they get something out of it - usually money.
So all I'm saying is that we all are very lucky to live here and the positives way out weigh the pain-in-the-rear's we may come across.
Be happy! This place is totally fabulous! And if I have to carry on waiting for a few months for my card and its not affecting my life here I don't care. If it does then I will go to Valetta and speak to them as obviously some people have done, and see if they can help. Those guys are working really hard to process all these applications and they are understaffed so lets take a chill pill and be proactive when need be and relax when need be. And hopefully that should go for any other little gripes people may have. :D

We are :cool: it's only a minority who complain and some are pursuing their own political agendas. Personally, I think they should ask themselves the question as to why they are really here and answer it honestly. Their answers may identify why they do complain. Having said that and I've stated this before, please do not mistake complaining for critical observation.
And don't get me started on the way some try to use EU this and EU that to get what they want :D
Personally again, I am more chilled and relaxed here on Gozo than I have ever been in my life; well some other times excluded ;)

Hmmm Lucky is it!!!!!!

I guess I am lucky i dont need e-residency permit urgently and lucky i dont work so dont ahve to take days pay loss to sort it out
Lucky i have my util bills sorted out and not moving anytime soon
Lucky i dont use the buses very often
Lucky i have a bank account and cards to go with it
Lucky i dont have kids to enrol in school
Lucky i have my tv internet and phones sorted too
Lucky i have a good landlord

and

lucky for the last 8 months i dont live in Gozo -

well at least there getting round to these eventually

I think the psition is improving we had an appointment in July but when we called to collect the cards they were mislaid (read lost). I escalated the matter to the PMs office and finally got the cards in August.

The government representatives acknowledge the system is I quote "A Shambles" and are trying to get on top of things and there is a plan for a new process.

I feel sorry for the staff but at leastthe problem is recognised and I am sure there are many hidden applications lurking in room 25.

Its not the staffs fault at all - altho theyre in the front line and are unduly taking flak for it - its聽 just a shame its taken so long and further that the previous administration didnt recognise it....

Just to say that after just over a month of applying for mine and my family ID cards, we managed to collect them today :D
I am not gonna tell you how I did it but I can assure you I did not jump over any queue. Thanks Meddie for your amazing sociable skills and connections :)

Hi I just recently arrived in Malta with my family. My husband is a British citizen and he has a work permit and received a social security number. If someone can advise me on the steps that need to be taken to become a resident. Is it only the ID cards that I must apply for? From reading some of the posts it seems there have been a few challenges and appreciate any feedback to ensure I know the steps to take.

Just to clarify, its not an ID card you are applying for but an eResidency card, which replaces the old residency document and ID card

British citizens dont need work permits....
