Really, why should i even bother getting this ID card?

I never take the bus, and my girlfriend pays the bills so we get residential rates.

I can keep working under my Belgian system, i'll pay higher taxes, but the social security is also much better.

if your GF pays the bills and she gets residential rates it can only be for the confirmed number of legal resident in the house?????

got my card this morning still a shambles down there, but they got nice doors now pity the door frames are awful...lol聽 - nobody seems to know whats going on - lots of staff wandering around and more sitting around not doing much.....

The way the article is written it could be interpreted by some people that these are "first time applications" and because of the backlash against the sale of Maltese citizenship they seem to be assuming that there are all these people waiting to be approved for residency but are not paying anything into the system so it is better for the country to be receiving the money for people from the sale of citizenship.

There are still quite a few people who have expired cards who still have not applied for the new EID ones.
Most decided to wait until the backlog has cleared, could be a long wait!!

was in the dept this morning - and i fail to see how they can possibly cope with this backlog on the basis of what i saw this morning at 845am...... long queue at the new reception/room 25 - they have now combined the 2.two alternative reception desks who knows what theyre for.... and a waiting room with about 30-40 people in it not to mention the seats either side of the queue...

the queue was longer when we left too.

as for staffing and organisation - they were polite for sure - but honestly organisation was next to non existent. they coudnt find our blue receipt, had to go and get our contact person (good job i remembered her name) to locate it and lo and behold it was in the file on the desk along with the other folders in our names and the actual cards were inside that.... two guys on the desk - to be honest they could have double the throughput with little or no effort ...... OIM

Not if I leave the country every three months, which I probably will ...

But enough smart-assery, I will get this card, at some point, since I tend to be of the law-abiding citizen type anyways. It's just that reading reports such as this one, there's no incentive to be in any rush.

Also, we'll probably be moving next spring, so ideally i'd save myself the hassle of going through this twice.

Good to know though about the rates thing, thanks for that.

This just in: my (Maltese) girlfriend went to Evans building this morning to renew her Maltese ID (expired since two years or so). Took her all of three minutes

thats the difference between being maltese and any other nationalty - as you will find out if and when you ever get a card!!!!

We are planning on moving next June, wonder what the process will be for changing our address on the new cards (not that we have received them yet!), hope it wont be a case of re applying and waiting amongst the backlog but it could be by the looks of things.
