We are thinking of moving to Malta-I am 76 so could anyone tell me if my E111 card cover me for medical expenses plus medication or do I need private med insurance?

E111 no longer exists, its replaced by EHIC and EHIC is for tourists not residents

so ,no it wont cover you. However do you qualify for an S1 or do you have a UK passport ?
I have a UK Passport and sorry, I meant the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)
:-)

as Uk passport holder you can get the RHA which gives you basic cover
Many thanks

Please do read this: /forum/viewtopic.php?id=316705
Full details are in it.
As you are over State retirement age and I presume in receipt of a State Pension you will qualify for S1 certificate which will mean that ALL your health treatment and medication for chronic conditions will be free of charge.
Beware, the process for accessing the free medication for chronic conditions (yellow card i.e. Schedule V) takes some time so if you do come out here bring as much medication as you can from the UK.

What do you mean by this? Isn't EHIC useful for non-native residents as well?
