Water heaters

JudeW

Hi. Can anyone advise about small solar water heaters! We see them on the roofs with a small tank, above the wash houses. We have a top floor appartment, and the water pressure in the bathroom is poor as we are too close to the tank on the roof I guess. So we are thinking a smal tank/ solar panel may improve the pressure and provide hot water - are they expensive? Are they effective? Any advice much appreciated.

The solar system itself will not increase the water pressure. The warm water supply from the tank uses the pressure from the main water. Compare the hot water pressure to the cold water pressure in the kitchen ( the cold water in the kitchen should be direct from the main water !) and you will notice the difference.

Your best bet is a water pump . It does not cost too much , is easy to install . As soon as you open the tap the pump starts working and increases the pressure. Without a pump you might not even be able to use your washing machine as they need a certain water flow to function.

Thanks Ricky. We did speak to a plumber about a pump, but he felt it may cause other problems with the plumbing as the pipes are very old ( and narrow?). We are lucky that the washing machine is on the roof in the wash house so it works ok. We had hoped the tank under the panel would supply the bathroom hot water and just flow better  because of the height ..... will think again about the pump ( and maybe we need to consider changing the pipes anyway)

Thank you..
